Maven and ABCL

I'm using :mvn ASDF components and ran into a problem with having multiple versions of the same library. The issue boils down to the fact that ABCL currently processes dependencies for :mvn components one at a time, which doesn't take into account mutual dependencies. Attached is a function resolve-multiple-maven-dependencies, which takes a set of maven components and computes the dependencies. As an example, here is a comparison of treating the dependencies individually vs at once. Which one is actually used is not easily predictable. In my case even though I specified version 4.2.6 in my system definition, 4.1.3 was actually used. The attached code also has features not yet supported by the :mvn syntax that are really needed: The ability to override versions of a particular dependency that a downstream dependency specifies, and the ability to exclude certain artifacts altogether. Mark has suggested that the maven resolution could be moved to the ASDF planning stage, which sounds like a good idea. However there is still an issue regarding maven dependencies in different loaded ASDF systems. One idea is to remember dependencies across systems and then uses them as constraints on subsequent maven resolutions. Comments and ideas would be appreciated. Alan

Finding abcl-contrib packages inside a JAR: approach and suggestions

Hello, I'm almost done with my small experiment: * I'm loading lisp code via a Java file using Load.loadSystemFile in an init method * I'm adding the file file to *lisp-home* via gradle * I'm using gradle tasks to create a single JAR with abcl and abcl-contrib added (not as JAR files) Note that I need to have only one jar file and with specific requirements around the main method; the above allows me to have it working fine, a single JAR which is essentially standalone. My only remaining doubt (apart from other possible solutions which could also work and be more elegant, I'm open to suggestions of course) is around loading abcl-contrib.jar or more specifically the included packages (JSS and JFLI specifically). I've spent some hours tracking the loading mechanism and learned a bit about the process but I'm still missing some pieces. My current solution (which works) is: (require :abcl-contrib) (pushnew (make-pathname :device (pathname-device *lisp-home*) :directory '(:absolute "jss")) asdf:*central-registry*) (require :jss) This adds #P"jar:file:/foo/myapp.jar!/jss" to ASDF, but I would like something more direct. With my setup (system::find-contrib) returns NIL; I've tried to add the abcl-contrib.jar to myapp.jar (which is in the CLASSPATH of course) but the code on abcl-contrib.lisp (and specifically find-contrib) doesn't seem to seach inside a jar for another one. I also tried to use something like (system::add-contrib (make-pathname :device (pathname-device *lisp-home*) :directory '(:absolute "abcl-contrib.jar"))) to see if it would pick up the jar but no luck. I think there is something obvious I'm missing, the pieces are all there (the jar handling code works fine, etc) but I can't seem to find the right way to put them together. disabling debugger in production

I'm bundling up a program for distribution to customers. I don't want it to ever enter the debugger. I want it to raise Java exceptions instead. What I've written to achieve this follows. I've observed it working. However, there are still times when my program enters the debugger. I can't tell why, and want to prevent it entirely. Does anybody know? Getting a Java class from Function.execute (LispObject introspection)

Hello, I'm experimenting with compiling some code using javac and the following example: https://github.com/slyrus/abcl/blob/master/examples/pure-lisp-to-java/Main.… I have one doubt regarding LispObject (what we get from Function.execute): I have read some introspection in the manual but my use-case is slightly different since the I will use the return value of the Lisp call and that value is actually a Java class (from a non-standard library which I use) that will be the return value of the main method of the Main class. CFFI on Windows does not load sqlite3.dll

Hello, This is on Windows 10, Armed Bear Common Lisp 1.4.0, Java 1.7.0_51 Oracle Corporation I am trying to link to sqlite3.dll with CFFI (as required by the cl-dbi package) I have jna installed in my home directory under ~/.m2/... and cffi loads cleanly as does cl-dbi. Note that the ~/.m2/.../jna-4.2.2.jar is not in my classpath. Instead I added it via (java:add-to-classpath ...) (cffi:load-foreign-library "c:/Program Files/sqlite/sqlite3.dll") gives an error (shown below). I also tried by adding the directory to cffi:*foreign-library-directoris*, and then calling (cffi:load-foreign-library "sqlite3.dll"). The error message is: Unable to load foreign library (SQLITE3.DLL-30929). Unable to load library 'C:/Program Files/sqlite/sqlite3.dll': Native library (win32-x86/C:/Program Files/sqlite/sqlite3.dll) not found in resource path ([file:/C:/mv-program-files/abcl-bin-1.4.0/, file:/C:/mv-program-files/abcl-bin-1.4.0/abcl.jar]) Questions: 1. What is the implication of the win32-x86 prefix to the path in the error message? Is that a 32/64 bit incompatibility? 2. I don't understand the part of the error message referring to the resource path 3. while CFFI does compile, do I have somehow to load JNA explicitly. In other words, is (ql:qload ...) enough, or do I need to do something else to activate JNA? 4. Does CFFI work on Windows (since Java is cross-platform, I would expect it to)? (My Java knowledge is epsilon where epsilon appraches 0, although I plan to work on this if I continue using ABCL to interface to Java libraries) Thank you, Mirko

Watson IoT MQTT with ABCL (dW recipe)

Hello all, Following my previous experiences with using Eclipe Paho with ABCL I wrote a more step-by-step tutorial that uses MQTT to send data to IBM's Watson IoT Platform. https://developer.ibm.com/recipes/tutorials/watson-iot-with-common-lisp/ It uses Quicklisp and tries to show to those who do not know ABCL the basics of what is possible. I'm sure there are some incorrections here and there but still, thought it would be interesting. The audience is the general community much more than those already acquainted with ABCL. patch for bug 443 (ENCODE-UNIVERSAL-TIME effectively ignores TIME-ZONE argument)

Hi, here is a patch to fix bug 443. With this change, Maxima + ABCL passes its tests (in tests/rtest11.mac for the record) for parse_timedate which calls ENCODE-UNIVERSAL-TIME. Incidentally this patch also fixes an unreported bug in DECODE-UNIVERSAL-TIME: the daylight saving flag is reported incorrectly because EXT:GET-TIME-ZONE expects its argument in milliseconds, not seconds. I can't sign in to the bug tracker as the OpenID button doesn't work and I don't remember my common-lisp.net username/password and I don't see a way to get a password reminder on common-lisp.net. A comment on the bug tracker mentions Java 8. If I remember correctly, I tried the previous version of the code with both Java 7 and Java 8 and in both cases it fails. In any event the error seems to be pretty clearly a mistake in ENCODE-UNIVERSAL-TIME so I would be surprised if different Java versions yielded different results. Hope this helps, and all the best. Help me get a Java object's name

Hello, I am using the Apache POI library to read Excel files. The following is from within Slime. I am struggling to extract cell types as returned by getCellTypeEnum ( https://poi.apache.org/apidocs/org/apache/poi/ss/usermodel/Cell.html#getCel… ()) My code returns a Java Object like so: #<org.apache.poi.ss.usermodel.CellType FORMULA {5C25A9}> It is of class #<java class org.apache.poi.ss.usermodel.CellType> I would like to grab the "FORMULA" in the above object description. Slime can see it, it's inspector can see it, even DESCRIBE can see it: READER> (describe *) #<org.apache.poi.ss.usermodel.CellType FORMULA {11CC24A}> is an object of type JAVA-OBJECT. The wrapped Java object is an instance of org.apache.poi.ss.usermodel.CellType: "FORMULA" But, I could not figure out a way to get to "FORMULA". I tried to accessing the slot `name' but that does not work. I looked at the FFI page, but found no clues. I tried to get slot names via AMOP: (mop:class-direct-slots (class-of java-cell-type)) returns NIL It must be something simple that I am overlooking. Help is appreciated. Thanks! Mirko
