I checked, and I get exactly the same error also with abcl-1.8.0.

So loading stmx seems to work only up to abcl-1.7.1

I can confirm that I get the same error with abcl-1.9.0-rc-1. I will try to devote some cycles to figure out what is going wrong with STMX before the release.
