Announcing ASDF 3.3.7 Release

Today we release ASDF 3.3.7, "Robbie Burns Night 2024 (belated)," the seventh bugfix release for the 3.3 release series. I had hoped that this would be the last bugfix release, but "the best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men Gang aft agley." We urge implementations that are currently bundling previous versions of ASDF to upgrade to 3.3.7 at their earliest convenience. This is particularly true for Allegro and SBCL. A primary purpose of the 3.3.7 was to give compatibility with Allegro 11.0. There is also a fix for multi-threaded vs. single-threaded FASLs that should be very useful to SBCL users. As maintainer, my primary role continues to be coordination and some limited quality control. Many contributors and bug-reporters have made this possible and the Common Lisp community owes them a vote of thanks. Their names are listed on the Changelog, appended below. The Changelog is in Debian format, for historical reasons: we used to release a Debian package, but have lost that capability (if you would like to volunteer to do this, please contact me directly or on the ASDF-devel mailing list). Hope springs eternal that the next release will be 3.4, that will introduce new functionality but, as its numbering suggests, will be backward compatible. ASDF 3.3.6 is released

Today we release ASDF 3.3.6, the sixth bugfix release for the 3.3 release series, and -- it is devoutly to be hoped -- the final one. We urge implementations that are currently bundling previous versions of ASDF -- and especially those bundling 3.3.0 through 3.3.5 -- to upgrade to 3.3.6 at their earliest convenience. As maintainer, my primary role continues to be coordination and some limited quality control. The real work for this release has been done by many contributors and bug-reporters, to whom the Common Lisp community owes a tremendous vote of thanks. Their names are listed on the Changelog, appended below. An extra special thanks is due to my co-maintainer, Eric Timmons, who has provided many fixes and also has overhauled and much improved our regression testing. We *hope* that the next release will be 3.4, introducing new functionality but which, as the numbering suggests, will be backward compatible. Upcoming bug fix release

I have just updated the ASDF repository to version 3.3.4.19 I plan for this to turn into the bug fix release 3.3.5 very soon, so please, if you have the opportunity, test it with your libraries, your hardware, your lisp implementations, etc. I am particularly excited to get this out there, because we have a number of enhancements on deck that could become version 3.4, and I would dearly like 3.3.5 to be the last bug fix release in the 3.3 series. In honor of Valentine's Day, and more honestly, just because it's overdue, today we release ASDF 3.3.4, the fourth bugfix release for the 3.3 release series. We urge implementations that are currently bundling previous versions of ASDF -- and especially those bundling 3.3.0 or 3.3.1 -- to upgrade to 3.3.4 at their earliest convenience. This is especially true for SBCL, for which 3.3.4 fixes a bug preventing ASDF upgrade from working smoothly. Immense thanks, as always, to Faré Rideau. Multiple fixes in handling misnamed (or "legacy-named," if you prefer) secondary systems ("foo-test" instead of "foo/test"). Thanks to Eric Timmons, there is also a similar fix for package-inferred-systems. 2. Fix an annoying warning message for compute-action-stamp. 3. Add support for the Mezzano implementation (thanks to E. Housel, H. Harrington). 4. Miscellaneous minor fixes and documentation tweaks. ASDF 3.3.1 is released

Today we release ASDF 3.3.1, the first bugfix release for the 3.3.0 release series. Of primary interest in this release are 1. a fix for an incompatibility in the UIOP stamp-comparison functions. The handling of infinity as a bound in these functions changed between 3.2 and 3.3, potentially causing problems in backward compatibility. In order to maintain compatibility, the old behavior was restored to the stamp-comparison functions, and new functions -- TIMEstamp comparison functions -- were added to carry the new behaviors. 2. a fix for upgrade from version 3.2.1 3. fixes for bugs that can occur when the default readtable is manipulated inside a dependency loaded by DEFSYSTEM-DEPENDS-ON. We urge implementations that are currently bundling previous versions of ASDF -- and especially those bundling 3.3.0 -- to upgrade to 3.3.1 at their earliest convenience. ASDF 3.3.0 is released!

Today we release ASDF 3.3. The most substantial change is to the build planning process, which has been reformed by François-René Rideau so that DEFSYSTEM-DEPENDS-ON now behaves correctly. There are a number of other improvements, and we are indebted to Daniel Kochmanski, Rommel Martinez, and Chun Tian for contributions. Thanks again to Anton Vodonosov and Dave Cooper for support in testing, and new thanks to Martti Halminen, Jens K. Loewe, and Jason Miller. I would like to dedicate this ASDF release to the late Elias Pipping. On a technical level, Elias made great improvements in some of the most challenging ASDF internals, notably the RUN-PROGRAM component of UIOP, a place where implementations are not constrained by the language specification, diverge radically from each other, and are poorly documented. On a personal level, Elias was very supportive to me as ASDF maintainer, and while I was going through an illness. He did all these things despite being gravely ill with the cancer that eventually killed him. He will be greatly missed, Z'chrono L'vracha. We urge implementations that are currently bundling previous versions of ASDF to adopt 3.3.0 at their earliest convenience. The improvements offered in this release will substantially improved the reliability and predictability of ASDF use.
