If my understanding is correct, the UIOP maintainers may wish to emphasize the synchronous nature of UIOP:RUN-PROGRAM in its docstring.
I'll update the docstrings. If you only care about CCL and SBCL, you can use UIOP::%RUN-PROGRAM.
