[bknr-devel] Recursive locks problem on sbcl

Hi Hans, the problem we've spoken of yesterday on irc (recursive lock attempt warning on sbcl using bknr datastore) proved to be trivial to solve - there is a primitive in sb-thread for exactly this case. I have not tested it extensively yet, but it appears to work. The patch is attached. FWIW, being unable to load some third-party libraries supplied with bknr (mainly cxml and unit-test), I ditched thirdparty altogether, installed all the newest versions of whatever bknr-indices and bknr-datastore depend on, and both seem to work. Hi, I am building an application that uses BKNR-datastore back-end and the portable AllegroServe web server. They run on CMUCL. I was wondering about how to optimally tune AllegroServe so that the system runs reliably and be responsive enough. What will be the optimal numbers of the AllegroServe listeners? When does BKNR-datastore yield to other processes, e.g. if there are several listeners and several web requests that access the datastore how will the system act? Thanks in advance, -- Kamen

[bknr-devel] compilation with cmucl-19d

Hi, Have you tried running the latest BKNR with cmucl-19d? I had an issue compiling the CXML package. I had to isolate the file character.lisp from the package to compile it (I don't use CXML anyway). The rest seems to work. -- Kamen

[bknr-devel] objects with transient slots

Hi, It is said in the datastore-manual: "... you can specify that a certain slot is transient, which means that it will not be snapshotted and that its value can be changed outside of a transaction." In my application the value of a transient slot is specified on object creation. When reloading the transaction log (server restart) the transient slot is bound and its value is correct. Is this intended behaviour or not? How is snapshotting the database different in that context? Thanks in advance, -- Kamen

Generally, I would like to keep all system dependencies out of the baseline code and see them being put into seperate files (like cmu.lisp, sbcl.lisp etc.). Also, it needs to be made sure that the serialization mechanism works on sbcl. All transactions to the store need to be serialized, and BKNR has a mutex that guards all destructive operations. It needs to be verified that this works on sbcl, too. It may be best to write some tests, and this would be on my todo list. The present tests are too informal to be really useful, and I have concentrated on the application side of things. -Hans

Does anyone on this list have a link to the iconv package that bknr requires? The link from cliki.net (http://www.swj.co.jp/~tahara/lisp/lib/iconv_0.2.tar.gz) is broken, and google has not turned up anything. Thanks, Kevin

I'm trying to install bknr, but I can't get my lisp (sbcl) to find it. In brief, I've put bknr-svn in $SBCL_HOME, and I have the file $SBCL_HOME/bknr-svn/bknr/init.lisp looking as below.
