ILC 2014 - International Lisp Conference "Lisp on the Move" August 14-17 2014, Université de Montréal, Montréal, Canada Sponsored by the Association of Lisp Users http://www.international-lisp-conference.org Scope: Lisp is one of the greatest ideas from computer science and a major influence for almost all programming languages and for all sufficiently complex software applications. The International Lisp Conference is a forum for the discussion of Lisp and, in particular, the design, implementation and application of any of the Lisp dialects. We encourage everyone interested in Lisp to participate. We invite high quality submissions in all areas involving Lisp dialects and any other languages in the Lisp family, including, but not limited to, ACL2, AutoLisp, Clojure, Common Lisp, ECMAScript, Dylan, Emacs Lisp, ISLISP, Racket, Scheme, SKILL, HOP etc. This year's focus will be directed towards integrated solutions, including mobile computing. We especially invite submissions in the following areas: * Pervasive computing * Interoperability * Portability * Implementation challenges/tradeoffs for embedded/mobile platforms * Language support for mobile toolkits and frameworks * Language support for distribution * Language support for reliability, availability, and serviceability * Mobile IDEs * Mobile applications Contributions are also welcome in other areas, including but not limited to: * Language design and implementation * Language integration, inter-operation and deployment * Applications (especially commercial) * Reflection, meta-object protocols, meta-programming * Domain-specific languages * Programming paradigms and environments * Efficient parallel and concurrent computation * Language support for managing both manual and automatic GC * Theorem proving * Scientific computing * Data mining * Semantic web Technical Programme: Original submissions in all areas related to the conference themes are invited for the following categories: Papers: Technical papers of up to 10 pages that describe original results. Demonstrations: Abstracts of up to 2 pages for demonstrations of tools, libraries and applications. Workshops: Abstracts of up to 2 pages for groups of people who intend to work on a focused topic for half a day. Tutorials: Abstracts of up to 2 pages for in-depth presentations about topics of special interest for 1 to 2 hours. Panel discussions: Abstracts of up to 2 pages for discussions about current themes. Panel discussion proposals must mention panel member who are willing to partake in a discussion. The conference will also provide slots for lightning talks, to be registered on-site every day. I'm pleased to announce that Alexey Radul will present his work on the "DysVunctional Language" and its compiler at the next Boston Lisp meeting. The meeting will take place on Thursday, 8 August at 6:00 PM, in the Star Conference room at MIT's Stata Center (MIT 32-D463; <http://whereis.mit.edu/?go=32>). Abstract: The "Sufficiently Clever Compiler" has become something of a trope in the Lisp community: the mythical beast that promises language and interface designers near-unlimited freedom, and leaves their output in a performance lurch by its non-appearance. A few years ago, I was young enough to join a research project to build one of these things. Neglecting a raft of asterisks, footnotes, and caveats, we ended up making something whose essence is pretty impressive: you pay for abstraction boundaries in compile-time resources, but they end up free at runtime. The prototype was just open-sourced recently, so that makes a good occasion to talk about it. Bio: Alexey Radul earned his PhD in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2009. His research interests focus on programming languages, compilers, high-performance computing, and how advances in the design and implementation of programming languages can enable novel applications by expanding the complexity horizon.

Does anyone have any suggestions for where to host these files? One idea would be to turn them into videos and put them on Vimeo or Youtube. What do you think? I'm temporarily sharing them publicly on my Google Drive. At one point I hosted them from a sever out of my apartment, but then I moved and the files went offline for a while (my bad, irresponsible. Just a reminder: Jonathan Smith will be presenting his work on '$-Calculisp' tonight (12 June) at 6:00 PM in the usual place (MIT 32-D463). Note the time change from the last few meetings. Jonathan's abstract follows. See you there! -- Alex $-Calculus (pronounced cost calculus), is a descriptive fourth generation language designed for modeling parallel algorithms, artificial intelligence applications, and bounded super-Turing computation. $-Calculisp is a domain specific language modeled on $-Calculus and implemented in Common Lisp. $-Calculisp is implemented using a variety of techniques based on Common Lisp's unique macro and object system facilities. Rather than being an interpreter, it is a macro compiler, expanding $-Calculisp code into efficiently compiled Common Lisp code. It is intended to be a robust extension to the Common Lisp language, as such, it allows for integration of regular common lisp functions alongside $-Calculisp code.

Jonathan Smith is a software engineer at NovaSparks, where he currently works on their HPCC lisp to VHDL compiler infrastructure. Previously, he worked at Westinghouse Electric Company, where he supported their ShuffleWorks product line. Shuffleworks is an expert system, (written in Lisp) for coordinating nuclear fuel movement within power plants.
