I have written Foreign Structures By Value (FSBV) to allow calling foreign functions while passing or returning structures by value. It uses CFFI and libffi. It currently provides two macros for users, fsbv:defcstruct and fsbv:foreign-funcall, which are used exactly like their CFFI counterparts. It works for small test cases I've tried, but probably could use some improvement. If the keepers of CFFI are interested, I would be happy for it to be included in CFFI. Happy new year! On 64-bit Allegro, run (cffi:defcfun strerror :string (errnum :int)) (strerror 1) and you will probably get Received signal number 4 (Illegal instruction) [Condition of type EXCL:SYNCHRONOUS-OPERATING-SYSTEM-SIGNAL] at least if the returned pointer is more than 32-bits. The problem is that without this patch, cffi-allegro.lisp does not support 64-bit pointers. Does the patch address the problem properly? It seems to work for us. I am trying to use cffi-grovel on GSL's physical constants. For example, in http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gsl.git/tree/const/gsl_const_mksa.h, these are defined: #define GSL_CONST_MKSA_SPEED_OF_LIGHT (2.99792458e8) /* m / s */ #define GSL_CONST_MKSA_GRAVITATIONAL_CONSTANT (6.673e-11) /* m^3 / kg s^2 */ When I try to define these using CFFI-grovel (constant (+mksa-speed-of-light+ "GSL_CONST_MKSA_SPEED_OF_LIGHT")) I end up with an integer, because the C definition is cast to an integer prior to generating the constant. Is there a way to get around this, so that I can grovel float constants? Thanks, Liam

Your current implementation of "parse-args-and-types" in src/function.lisp use destructuring clause in "loop" and tests the end(as i understood) of the arguments list by comparing second value with nil (defun parse-args-and-types (args) "Returns 4 values. Compare the definitions of the structures WORKING and BROKEN: (use-package :cffi) (defcstruct foo (x :int)) (defcstruct working (y foo)) (defcstruct (broken :conc-name broken-) (y foo)) Compiling the WORKING definition works perfectly, while compiling BROKEN produces the following error in SBCL: ; caught ERROR: ; don't know how to dump #<CFFI::AGGREGATE-STRUCT-SLOT {10041256D1}> (default MAKE-LOAD-FORM method called). This appears to stem from the application of the following compiler macro (and ultimately the result of foreign-struct-slot-set-form) to the generated accessors: (define-compiler-macro foreign-slot-set (&whole form value ptr type slot-name) "Optimizer when TYPE and SLOT-NAME are constant." [cffi-devel] Set :dlopen-flags to :global-lazy in %load-foreign-library in lispworks?

Hello, I'd like to suggest a change to %load-foreign-library in lispworks. :dlopen-flags in fli:register-module is default to :local-lazy, which means setting RTLD_LOCAL || RTLD_LAZY flag when calling dlopen. This will not allow me to open shared libraries in sequential that depends on previously loaded ones. So I suggest to set :dlopen-flags to :global-lazy as default in % load-foreign-library in cffi-lispworks.lisp. The code will look like: (defun %load-foreign-library (name path) "Load the foreign library NAME." (fli:register-module (or name path) :connection-style :immediate :real-name path + :dlopen-flags :global-lazy)) P.S.
