I was trying to use Edi Weitz' drakma http client the other day, and found that it depends on cl+ssl which, in turn, uses CFFI's with-pointer-to-vector-data. I run ACL, and with-pointer-to-vector-data is commented out in cffi-allegro. I *believe* that the following definition is what's needed, but have not been able to test it well enough to be sure (I don't really know what might kill it); it was mostly assembled by stumbling through the Franz FF interface documentation. IIUC, we needn't do anything to get a pointer for the C code to use, the important thing is to avoid having the lisp gc move the byte vector around, which is accomplished by the use of register-lisp-value. [cffi-devel] CLSQL 3.7.1, CFFI and Oracle

Hi, I updated clsql to version 3.7.1 and it is not working (for Oracle) anymore using CFFI (updated from darcs repo today). I tried CLISP versions 1.39 and Allegro 8.0 on windows XP. The problem happens when I try to connect. The error message is: "Symbol "DEF-POINTER-VAR" not found in the CFFI-UFFI-COMPAT package." I think that this macro is missing. I copied the macro def-pointer-var from uffi's objects.lisp to uffi-compat.lisp... ;;; Define a special variable, like DEFVAR, that will be initialized ;;; to a pointer which may need to be reset when a saved image is ;;; loaded. This is needed for OpenMCL, which sets pointers to "dead ;;; macptrs" when a saved image is loaded. ;; This may possibly be needed for sbcl's SAVE-LISP-AND-DIE (defmacro def-pointer-var (name value &optional doc) #-openmcl `(defvar ,name ,value ,@(if doc (list doc))) #+openmcl `(ccl::defloadvar ,name ,value ,doc)) ..and added #:def-pointer-var to cffi-user-compat's export symbols. I was following the tutorial about defining new types ( http://common-lisp.net/project/cffi/manual/html_node/Tutorial_002dTypes.htm…). When I tried to redefine the type translator for an enum type (translate-from-foreign), the type was not being changed. I took a look at the source code and discovered that translate-type-from-foreign is specialized on enum types. However, unlike the unspecialized method, this method doesn't call translate-from-foreign. Either the manual is out of date, or there is a bug here. BTW, I am currently using the version in darcs.
