Package: clisp Version: 1:2.41-1 Severity: normal Hi, I'm trying to compare a floating-point number and a rational. According to the rule of float and rational contagion, described in CLHS 12.1.4.1, and X3J13 issue CONTAGION-ON-NUMERICAL-COMPARISONS:TRANSITIVE, such a comparison should always return the mathematically correct result, as if the floating-point number were first converted to a rational with RATIONAL. Instead, CLISP signals an underflow condition: $ clisp -q -x '(< (expt 10 -100) least-positive-short-float)' *** - floating point underflow The Implementation Notes for GNU CLISP, sections 12.2.3.1 and 12.2.3.2, don't seem to say anything about comparisons, but mention two variables which control ANSI-compliance. CLISP behaves the same when invoked with "-ansi", to set these and any similar variables to T. $ clisp -ansi -q -x '(< (expt 10 -100) least-positive-short-float)' *** - floating point underflow This X3J13 issue is listed as supported in the Implementation Notes for GNU CLISP: http://clisp.cons.org/impnotes.html#issues CLISP behaves as expected if the floating-point number is filtered through RATIONAL. Package: gclcvs Severity: serious User: debian-release(a)lists.debian.org Usertags: goal-ldbl128 Discussed in http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/05/msg01173.html With glibc-2.5 and gcc-4.1.2 (and gcc-4.2), the 'long double' data type did change from a 64bit representation to a 128bit representation on alpha, powerpc, sparc, s390. To allow partial upgrades of packages, we will need to rename all packages holding libraries with the long double data type in their API. Both libc and libstdc++ do not need to be renamed, because they support both representations. We rename the library packages on all architectures to avoid name mismatches between architectures (you can avoid the renaming by supporting both datatype representations in the library as done in glibc and libstdc++, but unless a library is prepared for that, it does not seem to be worth the effort). It is suggested to rename a package libfoo1 to libfoo1ldbl; please wait with the renaming if the package depends on another library package which needs renaming. This package has been indentified as one with header files in /usr/include matching 'long *double'. Please close this bug report if it is a false positive, or rename the package accordingly.

<#secure method=pgpmime mode=sign> Hello, I finally decided to provide a shell script to launch StumpWM and thus solving bug #356948 [1] and I'm still "fighting" with the resolution of bug #384697 [2]. Either using CL-Launch or not for the creation of /usr/bin/stumpwm [3], I for sure won't provide a script that requires a parameter to be passed to be functional. This also because /usr/bin/stumpwm will be called via the menu [4]. Thus in /usr/bin/stumpwm I implemented a patch similar to that at [5]. 1) the end-user can add a line in his ~/.stumpwmrc to specify the preferred Common Lisp implementation ;; debian=$LISP 2) /usr/bin/stumpwm grep for "debian=" and uses its value instead of the default one 3) the default value is SBCL, because this is the one I use, mainly because CLisp has a specific bug in the NEW-CLX module, already solved in CVS [6] [7] I haven't found any problem with this solution yet, so I'm asking for comments. () Added doc strings, including on the predefined arg- and result-types, and arranged for them to be placed on the symbol-plist, where there's an outside chance someone might find them. () Revamped result types `:vector' and `:string' (incompatibly). () Removed deprecated arg- and result-types `:array'. () Changed most optional arguments to arg- and result-types to keyword arguments. () Substantially expanded the multiple-value capability. Now it is possible for an arg-spec to generate any number of arguments to the function being mapped, and for a single result-spec to consume more than one value returned by that function. () Using the new multiple-value capabilities, added `:alist' and `:plist' as both arg- and result-types.
