If you have interest but not much experience in mail setups, don't let that stop you from volunteering.  There are folks in the community ready to help you if you show good-faith effort, and there are big electric brains in the clouds these days that can help too -- so I daresay attitude is more important than specific past experience, and regardless of your experience level this will certainly be a learning opportunity.
