I just noticed that gitlab requires authentication. I don't think this is a good idea because it prevents all those that don't have an account to even view the repositories. Also, can we just use git.common-lisp.net ? That currently points to the ABCL homepage which is very confusing.

Apparently direct links work, but the main page requires authentication. Is it because the main page is supposed to point to one's use profile ?

A good solution would be to ensure that for unauthenticated users, / redirects temporarily to /explore/
As discussed on IRC: changed. Thanks for making me investigate -- It hadn't bothered me enough before, but I agree the user experience is much better now.
