Hi, there are now two new projects: - Closure HTML: Closure's HTML parser and some of its dependencies; previously a part of Closure. http://common-lisp.net/project/closure/closure-html/ - Closure Common Everything needed by both Closure HTML and Closure XML; basically the packages runes and runes-encodings. Previously a part of cxml, now a separate module in cxml CVS. http://www.cliki.net/closure-common Picture of the dependencies: Closure / \ v v Closure HTML Closure XML (cxml) \ / v v Closure Common Ultimately, both Closure Common and Closure HTML will be released as asdf-installable tarballs, but at this point Closure HTML is not quite in a form that I would like to release officially. Before a release is done I would like to see: - documentation - test cases, in particular to make sure that character runes work - good serialization support (like cxml has, only for HTML instead) - an add-on library allowing Closure HTML to be used with XML's in-memory representations for XHTML Some of you might already have seen `trivial-html-parser' by Ignas Mikalaj#nas, also a stand-alone version of Closure's HTML parser. My new Closure HTML project is based on Ignas' work (thanks to him for getting that started), but differs from it in some respects: - the new archive includes all history - so far, I have preserved closure's original directory structure - trivial-html-parser still had all of glisp, which I have reduced to only those functions necessary (still including gstreams though). The remaining package is called HTML-GLISP to avoid conflicts with the real GLISP package in Closure. The latter imports gstream-related symbols from the former for re-export. - Mime support is in a separate package, so that closure's netlib, from which is was taken, can now :use that package instead. - last but not least, a different name. (The "trivial" in trivial-html-parser would not do this code base justice at all.) d.

Hi, I discovered today that closure HEAD doesn't work for me. The first thing I found was a stray FOO in renderer2.lisp, which doesn't make any sense to me. Removing it, though, gives me something which (on SBCL/x86-64 CVS HEAD) renders the closure home page on clnet acceptably, but then does not give me a user interface -- instead the closure thread seems to busy-loop. Does anyone have a working closure setup? Cheers, Christophe

[closure-devel] PATCH: load GIF files without an external application

Hi, Closure currently loads GIF files by saving the contents to a temporary file, running gif2png on the file, then slurping in that file. The attached patch (well, it isn't packaged as a proper patch) allows Closure to load GIF files directly, thanks to Zach Beane's Skippy library. http://www.xach.com/lisp/skippy/ Interlaced GIF files are not currently supported by Skippy (but this should change shortly). Only the last frame of animated GIFs will be displayed (yes, this is a feature). -- Eric Marsden

Hi, The attached file illustrates how to query Yahoo's REST search API, extract the interesting information from the resulting XML stream using CXML's DOM interface, and display the results as HTML within Closure. The results as presented are currently ugly, but look at how few lines of code are required to implement this extension! -- Eric Marsden

[closure-devel] PATCH: HTTP and HTTPS support via the Drakma library

Hi, The attached rough patch splices the Drakma library into Closure for HTTP support. Drakma is a very nice web client library by Edi Weitz: http://weitz.de/drakma/ Unlike the current Closure code, the library supports HTTPS and HTTP/1.1. I see this as an opportunity to replace some of the undermaintained code in Closure by high quality external libraries; this concerns src/net/http.lisp (replaced by Drakma) src/net/url.lisp (partially replaced by PURI) src/net/uri.lisp (ditto) I haven't yet started trying to remove stale code; this is just a proof of concept. A likely candidate for similar replacement is the GSTREAM code, which could likely advantageously be replaced by Flexi-streams. Opinions on whether this is a good route to pursue are welcome. -- Eric Marsden
