Hello, I am new to cxml and need some assistance to get started. Thanks to https://common-lisp.net/project/cxml/quickstart.html, it is fairly easy to read existing xml and write them back (almost) identical: (defun parse-dom (file) (cxml:parse file (cxml-dom:make-dom-builder))) (defun serialize-dom (file dom new-extension) (with-open-file (out (make-pathname :defaults file :type new-extension) :direction :output :if-exists :supersede :element-type '(unsigned-byte 8)) (write-sequence #(#xef #xbb #xbf) out) ;; byte order mask (dom:map-document (cxml:make-octet-stream-sink out :encoding "utf-8") dom))) (let ((file #p"some-file.xml")) (serialize-dom file (parse-dom file) "new-xml")) with this, I can read a file and write it back. With diff -uw some-file.xml some-file.new-xml I can confirm that those files are (semantically) identical. But how do I go further? As a start, I would like to remove elements and/or attributes while writing. From the docs, I seem to understand that this can be done using sinks. But I just can't figure how to create my custom sink to do the filtering. And three das googling did not reveal any examples/howtos/tutorials. cxml-xpath depends on deleted xpath/test

I mistakenly reported this issue in plexippus-xpath instead: https://github.com/gonzojive/plexippus-xpath/issues/2 I was able to work around this by removing references to xpath/test and xpath-test from cxml-xpath. It appears that the test is no longer a separate asdf component. Ernesto

Loop while parsing

I have noticed that cxml is looping for a certain combination of xml/dtd. It loops in the recurse function inside compile-content-model in xml-parse.lisp. I cannot fix it myself but I am hoping that somebody else can find a solution using my minimal reproducible case, which can be found at https://doremir.com/files/cxml/xml-test.zip <https://doremir.com/files/cxml/xml-test.zip>. The xml file from the case looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> <!DOCTYPE a PUBLIC "" ""> <a> <c/> </a> And the dtd file looks like this: <!ELEMENT b EMPTY> <!ELEMENT c EMPTY> <!ELEMENT a ((b?)*, c?)> The real world case is from MusicXML parsing and the problematic xml excerpt looks like this: <sound tempo="90"> <offset sound="yes">8</offset> </sound> And the corresponding dtd excerpt looks like this: <!ELEMENT sound ((midi-device?, midi-instrument?, play?)*, offset?)> I have verified this using version "cxml-2008-11-30" from the Closure XML Parser home page at https://common-lisp.net/project/cxml/index.html and also with the latest version from Quicklisp "cxml-20181018". It seems that this is indeed an issue cause by the very tight loop overwhelming the gc. As soon as I do some work in the loop the memory use is bounded.

Parsing big XML files with klacks and sbcl

I am trying to parse a big xml file (around several GBs) and I am using klacks because of the the size. However it seems that there is some leak during parsing because the memory use continuously increase until sbcl runs out of memory. What am I missing? ASDF 3.3 and naming of CXML ASDF systems

Hello, due to a bug in ASDF 3.3 [1], I had problems loading cxml. As you might know, ASDF 3 expects secondary systems to use a slash in their system name, e.g. foo.asd should only contain a system named 'foo' and if there are additional systems in foo.asd, they should be named 'foo/test', 'foo/api' etc. [2] The attached patch extracts the following systems to their own .asd file: - cxml-dom - cxml-xml - cxml-klacks - cxml-test I have tested the loading of the different systems and they work for me on ASDF 3. Unfortunately, I don't have a lisp implementation with ASDF 2 to test it more thoroughly. I'd be happy to modify the patch, if necessary. closure XML fix for SBCL

For some reason, I get a string in SBCL which is an (simple-base string 2) and, unfortunately, that is not a subtype of '(simple-array character)). So to load my file with CXML, I have to change the type of simple-rod to: '(or (simple-array rune) simple-base-string). A patch is attached. It looks like the mlisp.patch in the root directory of cxml is outdated. I am attaching the updated patches for xml-name-rune-p.lisp and xml-parse.lisp files. So far during my tests, the patches do not introduced any bug in other lisp implementations and make cxml runnable in mlisp. Could you consider apply this patch in the next release of cxml? The way you look for the path of catalog.dtd doesn't work in ASDF 3. Here is a supported way that works with all versions of ASDF 2 and later. I'll try to improve backward compatibility, but you may nonetheless want to apply the patch. [cxml-devel] Incorrect character with code 12 in output?

Hello, I have a database with text data which sometimes is not proper to valid XML. For example, there is a field sometimes containing the character new-page or ^L in emacs (ASCII code = 12). While CXML does not complain and outputs cmxl:text as it was given, another XML parser complains that this is not valid XML. PCDATA invalid Char value 12 I am expecting CXML to produce valid output, is there something I missed to make it more strict? I am using LispWorks 64 bits. Thanks! Best Regards, Cam

Hello, I need to validate a XML file that doesn't have the doctype declaration. Actually, I don't control how the XML files are created so I am not able to change the fact that those files don't have doctype declarations. My problem is how to validate does files agains a DTD. I found at http://common-lisp.net/project/cxml/sax.html#parser that the correctly way should be: > (let ((d (cxml:parse-file "0675365413696898.xml" (cxml-dom:make-dom-builder))) (x (cxml:parse-dtd-file "LMPLCurriculo.DTD"))) (dom:map-document (cxml:make-validator x #"CURRICULO-VITAE") d)) But that gives me two warnings and return a NIL Warning: deprecated SAX default method used by a handler that is not a subclass of SAX:ABSTRACT-HANDLER or HAX:ABSTRACT-HANDLER Warning: deprecated SAX default method used by a handler that is not a subclass of SAX:ABSTRACT-HANDLER or HAX:ABSTRACT-HANDLER NIL It seems to work. [cxml-devel] Inconsistency in creating %children vector

I was scratching my head for a couple of hours today, because of an apparent failure of cxml-dom::make-space - it did not increase the size of the %children vector. On closer examination, it turned out that the reason was that the %children vector was not adjustable, at that point. The only places in cxml-stp where %children is set up are in %unchecked-insert-child (parent-node.lisp) and normalize-text-nodes! in xpath.lisp. The first of these has (make-array ... :adjustable t ...), while the other does not. My guess is that normalize-text-nodes! might be called as part of an xpath evaluation, and if this happens in code that is actually building the cxml-stp structure, the result might be a situation where the %children vector is not adjustable. I'm not sure if this is a valid use of cxml-stp/xpath, but there is at least one documented case where it has been done :-) I could (trivially) change my code to not use xpath as part of the construction process, but adding :adjustable t to the call to make-array in xpath.lisp makes my (current) code work, and I guess it also makes cxml-stp slightly more robust.

[cxml-devel] Real-world example: with attachment

Greetings again, Perhaps a good example would be a real one. I'm starting with some simple functions, such as obtaining the model name, algorithm, etc, from the attached XML example. Can anyone provide an exemplary method for doing this? Below is my naive attempt, which are all failing miserably: (defun algorithm-name (model) "Returns the algorithm for the model" (stp:filter-recursively (stp:of-name "algorithmName" (stp:namespace-uri model)) model)) I know this one will (if it were working) return a list, but since I can't get past the namespace problem haven't bothered to go any further. That function, I assume, is a rather trivial one for someone with some good examples or knowledge to work from. Here's a slightly more difficult function: (defun model-coefficient-list (model) "Returns a nested list of the following structure: (<model-name>-coefficients (coefficient1 coefficient1-value) (coefficient1 coefficient2-value) ... (coefficientn coefficientn-value))" ...) Something like this would be good to put on the STP website. Regards, - Steve
