Running examples from REPL

Hello I am trying to have a go with ECL. I have built ECL on windows 10 machine with 64-bit Visual Studio (community version) and i am trying to run example on build that comes with the source code. In open window of ecl.exe, i go to the folder, and call load on "readme.lisp". Then, on the first lines of it, i recieve the following error and the execution stops. Error as follows: > Condition of type: SIMPLE-ERROR > In COMPILE-FILE-PATHNAME, the type OBJECT is unsupported. > Available restarts: > > 1. (RESTART-TOPLEVEL) Go back to Top-Level REPL. > > Broken at SI:BYTECODES. [Evaluation of: (C::COMPILER-CC "hello_aux.c" > (COMPILE-FILE-PATHNAME "hello_aux.c" :TYPE :OBJECT))] In: #<process > TOP-LEVEL>. > File: > #P"C:/Users/Kurvivor/Development/ecl-16.1.3/examples/build/readme.lisp" > (Position #1054) How can i get past this error? Related question: how do i set up the compiler used and compiler environment? How do i check it (determine what current setings are)? Thanks in advance!

Recipe for wrapping C++ files

Hello How can one bridge between C++ objects and CL? For example, given a class to the lines of class A { public: A(int q, int w); ~A(); void foo(int q); int bar(); }; that has its instances wrapped in smart pointers, how can that functionality be made available from embedded Common Lisp? Sorry if that's too general of a question. I am somewhat ignorant at the moment, and would appreciate any tips as to where to dig to solve that

random failure on run-program on develop branch

Hi all,I'm sitting on the very latest develop branch on OSX. I'm noticed that some time the compilation will hang when the compiler is invoked. I'm not able to reproduce it consistently and if I kill the build and retry it does complete. Empirical observation show that it is happen when we invoke the compiler to compile the generated code. However also ansi-test have the same problem and so far I'm not be able to complete an ansi-test run, so with ansi-test is reproducible semi consistently I have a previous version and on the same machine it does work fine so I'll probably start a git bisect but It does take time as I have to do a full build and a ansi-test run. I was also wondering if that it's my environment or someone have the same issue. Given the pattern of the problem I feel like we are leaking file descriptor, but I may be wrong. cheersf.

quick way to test compatibility

Two issues with ecl 16.1.3 and gcc 7

Greetings, The Fedora project recently rebuilt all packages with gcc 7. The ecl build failed, due to gcc 7 complaining about missing braces on almost every line of src/c/unicode/ucd_names_pair.c. The massive amount of logging triggered for this slowed the build down so much that the builder eventually concluded the build had stalled and killed it. You need one pair of braces for the top-level array, ecl_ucd_names_pair. Then, since each element of that array is a struct, you need another set of braces around the elements of the array. That struct has only one element, so there should be 1 value inside those braces. That value is an array, so another set of braces is needed around the initializers for the array. The upshot is that the initalizer lines all need to have two sets of curly braces, like so: {{1, 0, 0, 0}} ,{{2, 0, 3, 0}} ... GCC 6 also complained about this, but less verbosely. :-) Here's a quick fix: sed -i 's/{.*,.*,.*,.*}/{&}/g' src/c/unicode/ucd_names_pair.c Also, while looking through the build log, I noticed this: /builddir/build/BUILD/ecl-16.1.3/src/c/file.d: In function 'ecl_make_string_input_stream': /builddir/build/BUILD/ecl-16.1.3/src/c/file.d:1630:32: warning: comparison of constant '16' with boolean expression is always false [-Wbool-compare] That refers to this line: if (ECL_BASE_STRING_P(strng) == t_base_string) { shouldn't that be: if (ECL_BASE_STRING_P(strng)) { ? typedef of missing types

In ecl/config.h line 220 there is a block labelled /* Missing integer types */ The int8_t has a typedef of char which is incompatible with Windows standard types. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/323b6b3k.aspx changing line 221 from: typedef char int8_t; to typedef signed char int8_t; Fixes the issue for me and allows me to compile both lisp code and C++ projects using ecl.lib I know that char and signed char should be the same but the MS VS compile disagrees.

EQL5: QML/Lisp bridge (for desktop)

For those interested in the progress of EQL5: Two new modules have been added lately: "multimedia" and "quick". The most interesting part is the QML / Lisp bridge, which allows creating applications using only QML (declarative UI) and Lisp (instead of JavaScript).
