I've never been to Amsterdam before. Can you suggest a place to stay for ECLM?
Zach
Sadly no. My company arranged a small appartment for me to rent so I never needed a hotel or lodging and I am not 'plugged into' that market
Judging by the number of tourists and visitors there should not be a problem getting accommodation via the internet. Don't worry if you can't get somewhere next to the venue, the public transport system is very good. But don't even think of renting a car. It's very expensive and there is nowhere to park.

Hi Zach,
I'm a local.
Amsterdam has hotels of all sorts to suit all wallets so it depends a lot on what you're looking for.
ECLM is being held in Hotel Arena which is a comfortable hotel, slightly quirky and pleasantly located in a park close to the centre of the city. (http://www.hotelarena.nl/).
If you have any questions about specific hotels, areas or generally about your stay in the city, feel free to ask. I'd be glad to help.
Reserve early if you can. In the course of the year Amsterdam has many large events which means that hotel room availability can sometimes get difficult.
Here's a link to a guide to Amsterdam written by a colleague from an institute across the street from mine. You may find it useful.

One thing I would recommend for visiting Amsterdam is to rent a bicycle. Weather permitting, it's a great way to experience the city.

I've never slept in an Amsterdam hotel myself, but this question has been asked and answered more than once on this mailing list. So it should be possible to find some decent info in the archives.
