I booked over a month ago via lastminute.com, into the Nadia (Raadhuisstraat 51, I think near the Keizersgracht). It has decent reviews, isn't too expensive, is reasonably close to both the station and where we'll be meeting, and I think there's a chance it won't be too noisy.
This one was sold out. I have now bookd a room at Belfort Hotel - http://www.belforthotel.nl/ I hope this isn't too far away from everything. Thanks to everyone for their hints.
