I believe the list is not automatically inserting a Reply-to: eurolisp@common-lisp.net into e-mail headers. Could anyone turn that on? Or if it is already on, could you explain why my posts so far haven't gotten such a Reply-to in the header?
Kind regards,
Dirk Gerrits

Exactly.
It was turned on initially, but I hate these automatic Reply-To headers so I turned it off (after discussing this with Tayssir). If everybody wants it turned on again, just let us know.

The question is what "everybody" means in this context. I prefer having Reply-To in mailing lists as I almost always want to reply to the list, but this is my personal preference. I'd say that it either stays the way the list administrator thinks is best or we do a voting on the list to determine what the overall preference is (and no, I don't think that a voting would make much sense).
BTW: I tried to add the Berlin Lisp User Group meeting to alu.cliki.net, but the cliki software refuses to accept the update. Is it broken? Who is looking after the site?

Since this seems to be very much a personal preference, voting is probably the only way to resolve this issue. If somebody wants to collect and count votes, please feel free to do so.

That's strange. I added information about this mailing list a few hours ago and had no problems.
Who is looking after the site?
Good question. I think Nick Levine knows the answer.

I am in favour of reply-to. (That's how I set up the clrfi, and nobody objected yet.)

I don't.

I had the impression that the ALU Cliki runs on the ALU server and that the ALU server is maintained by you and Carl Shapiro. Is that right? Should I ask Carl about this?

No, this Cliki is not on the ALU server. (For which I'm grateful, as the ALU is really stretched for warm bodies to maintain its web services right now. Although I grant you that the ALU server is the obvious place.)
I had to research this, but it wasn't much of a challenge.
% host alu.cliki.net alu.cliki.net has address 64.49.254.81 % host 64.49.254.81 81.254.49.64.IN-ADDR.ARPA domain name pointer eval.metacircles.com % whois metacircles.com
Whois Server Version 1.3 [...] domain: metacircles.com status: production organization: metacircles owner: Daniel Barlow email: dan@metacircles.com
I tried editing a couple of pages there this morning and didn't have any particular difficulty.

If you feel strongly about this issue, please respond to me personally or go here: http://alu.cliki.net/Voting%20Page
If you respond to me, you only need say "replies should go to the list by default" or "replies should go to one person by default".
Personally, I think that when people want to say anything, it tends to be interesting enough to send to entire group, and people can decide to ignore it. Also, through my email clients (Mozmail and Yahoo) it's quite painful for my common case of sending to the group. But I respect if people have strong feelings contrary to mine.
The main culprit is the Mailman interface which doesn't give the option of an individual to configure for her own needs.

Incidentally, I won't take an action on the vote until I get the impression people have had enough time to consense/discuss/etc. But I realize people aren't here to discuss subtle admin issues or read about votes. ;)
(If it turns out there are a number of such issues, we can have a separate admin list for interested people. I think there won't be though.)

The spam has been increasing in the past few days, so page editing may have been disabled because of this. I seem to remember that the ALU CLiki did support page versioning, which made it easier to revert to the pre-spam situation. But versioning has apparently disappeared, and removing the spam without breaking existing content may not be easy.
Is it broken? Who is looking after the site?
I guess the ALU CLiki is managed by Dan Barlow or someone at ALU.

I just removed some more spam and everything seemed to work fine. Hans, maybe you should just try once more?

Here is one: http://www.metasystema.net/essays/reply-to.mhtml
Personally, I would prefer people stopped writing "Foo considered harmful"-articles. Especially if they mention Edsger Wybe Dijkstra, because he did *not* write an article entitled "Go-to statement considered harmful". To quote EWD1308:
I had submitted a paper under the title 'A case against the goto statement', which in order to speed up its publication, the editor had changed into a 'Letter to the Editor', and in the process he had given it a new title of his own invention! The editor was Niklaus Wirth.
