OK, sorry for the /long/ delay, but as I said I'm pretty busy at the moment. Your proposal sounds fine to me and I think we should include it. If you want this to be released quickly, please send a clean patch that not only includes the code with doc string but also updates the test file and the HTML documentation accordingly.
