Hi, The following code gives "Variable BAR undefined" error: (defcategory foo) (defcategory bar) (start-sender 'console-log1 (stream-sender :location *error-output*) :category-spec (and foo (not bar)) :output-spec (category message)) I think the problem is in sender-responds-to-category-p. determine-category-variables returns two list, but sender-responds-to-category-p does not use the second one (negated variables). Hi, I am quite new to lisp, so hopefully my question is not too "dumb". ;-) I'm curious if it is possible to dynamically set the log level when creating a sender like: (defun init-logging (log-level) (log5:defoutput human-time (human-time)) (log5:start-sender *my-logger* (log5:stream-sender :location *standard-output*) :category-spec log-level :output-spec (log5:category human-time log5:message log5:context))) I know, that it does not work like that, but is there another way than using configure-from-file? Gary, this is a feed back of my first use of log5. Previously I used log4CL with the daily rolling file appender pruducing a html file to be viewed with the browser. With browser update (F5) it is easy to read continously changing logfiles. It appears that log5 is very flexible, contexts are a cool feature ! 1. suggestion: A push-context command in a source file adds the same context to the list when the file is reloaded/recompiled. Wouldn't it be better to have something like push-new here ? 2. I wanted to give http://www.flogviewer.com/ a try for viewing the logfile since it has filters etc. The problem I have is that individual log messages can include many line breaks generated by I don't know what. This is not a problem when logging to a html file, but flogviewer expects one line per message. I tried everthing mentionned in cltl2 relating to *print-right-margin*, *print-miser-width* etc to switch this behaviour off, without success. I am not able to find out where the line breaks come from. Could you give me a hint please ? As Michael Price has already noticed (sorry Michael), log5 version 0.2.1 has been released. This version brings some speed improvements (as discussed on [unCLog][log5-speed]) *and* a minor change in API. I decided that it was a bag-thing to have the name of sender be unevaluated since sometimes you want to make up the name at run time. In practice this means that calls to (start-sender foo ...) must change to (start-sender 'foo ...) Ditto for calls to stop-sender. My apologies for not making this change more clear. [log5-devel] can't follow the tutorial

I noticed the log5 tutorial was up so I decided to play around a bit. Can anyone explain what the problem is in the session below? It appears I'm simply entering things in almost verbatim from the tutorial yet it isn't working.
