can anyone explain to me the difference between using the application- pane's :scrollbar option or alternatively setting it to nil and using a (scrolling () ...) macro around that application pane in the layout?

It looks a bit different (the scrolling macro comes with a black padding i think), but in essence, it is the same funktionality, right?
