Hi everyone, I just saw David's post about the FLGC, and I'd like to participate :-) I'm just finishing initial development on the next version of my own Lisp game engine, called Blackthorn [1], and this would be a great opportunity to try it out. The game engine was intended for writing 2D top-down, Zelda-style RPGs, but I'd like to try something fairly different (e.g. a Space Invaders style shooter). Shawn, Thanks so much for your work on this!!! I saw how many dll's you included and realized it would probably have taken me weeks to make this work. But, someone tested it out and it looks like it can't find any of the DLLs. It seems to check for them in a fixed path: z:\\work\\git\\frameworks\\win32\\ Putting all the dlls in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 did not help. So I wonder what's next? -- David O'Toole dto(a)gnu.org

[rlx] Key event data issues with SDL and RLX

Hello. Last night began some alpha testing of my new roguelike called Invader, which uses LISPBUILDER-SDL. See also http://dto.github.com/notebook/invader.html I told everyone to use the latest svn of lispbuilder-sdl. But some people have trouble controlling the game because modifiers are not recognized properly. Indeed we seem to each be getting very different data out of SDL. I added print statements to print out 1. the raw key symbol and modifier data coming in from the SDL:WITH-EVENTS loop, and 2. the rlx-internal format these get translated into. But on other machines people are getting numbers there. But according to the LISPBUILDER-SDL documentation you should always get symbols to represent the modifiers: > MOD is current state of the keyboard modifiers as explained in > SDL_GetModState. [rlx] Getting RLX running on OSX / sbcl

With some fiddling I managed to get the RLX code running under OSX. Some of the RLX related packages got patched out thanks to dto's fast response, the only hurdle was the lispbuilder libraries. Step by step guide for sbcl: i) Get the SDL and SDL_image frameworks from their respective sites: SDL-1.2.13.dmg <http://www.libsdl.org/release/SDL-1.2.13.dmg> SDL_image-1.2.7.dmg<http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_image/release/SDL_image-1.2.7.dmg> These should install under /Library/Frameworks/, there should be 2 new directories there called SDL.framework and SDL_image.framework. ii) get & load asdf-install > (require 'asdf-install) iii) install lispbuilder-sdl, lispbuilder-sdl-image and cocoahelper > (asdf-install cocoahelper lispbuilder-sdl lispbuilder-sdl-image) iv) At this point lispbuilder-sdl-image should complain that it cannot load the SDL_image framework. Open up the file in ~/.sbcl/site/lispbuilder-sdl-image/cffi/library.lisp and make sure the darwin line is the following: (:darwin (:framework "SDL_image")) iv) Retry compiling the lispbuilder-sdl-image and it should work this time: > (asdf:oos 'asdf:load-op 'lispbuilder-sdl-image) Pull (or clone) the latest version of RLX from the git repository, as instructed in the installation guide. v) Always make sure cocoahelper is loaded before you run RLX! It might be a good idea to add a (require 'cocoahelper) to rlx.lisp. vi) Run the game as usual with: > (rlx:play "vm0")
