A brief update:
I should be rescheduling the Lisp presentation soon.
It's taken a little while for me to get back on my feet. Now, I just have to get caught-up on a few things first...
In the mean time, if anyone else would like to present something, I can provide the projector and take care of the other details.
Just let me know.
Thanks, -Daniel

I'd still like to see a lisp presentation for beginners, but I don't feel I'm qualified for it. I wouldn't mind working with someone to do it though. I have 2-3 people who are interested in this.
I'm still looking forward to your Lisp networking presentation and the other things you have listed on the site. Its good to hear that you are getting back into the swing of things. Thanks for the update.

Hi, everyone,
I don't recall all the details of planning this event, but I could certainly do a lisp presentation for beginners. If some seasoned lispers are interested I could also do a presentation on CLOS, object-oriented programming and even the Meta-Object Protocol.

All of those sound great to me, especially MOP.

Wonderful!
The last presentation was at the Capitol Hill library branch meeting room. I have a projector, since the library doesn't provide one.
If that location works for you, I can take care of the paperwork and book the room. Just let me know what days work for you.
Alternatively, if a room at UW is more convenient for you, we can work that angle since you're affiliated with the University. (I'm not.)
Have projector, will travel...

Daniel,
Most weekday evenings work fine, except there is some uncertainty about my ice hockey team's schedule the next week or two.
Booking a room at the UW is difficult, and then there is the problem of finding it, since I am down in the hospital/health sciences, not to mention parking. So, let's stay with the Capitol Hill Library branch.
How far in advance do you need to schedule the meeting?

Daniel,
How soon do you want to do this?
I'm available this coming week, Wednesday night and Thursday night, as well as the following week most likely.

The next available Wednesday or Thursday slot for the meeting room is Thursday, June 14.
If this works for you, I'll reserve the room for the evening.

Works for me. I'll put it on my calendar. Please confirm the time also, and in case I put together a handout, a reasonable guess at the number of people attending.

The space has been reserved for your presentation:
Thursday, June 14, 2007 Capitol Hill branch of library
http://www.spl.org/default.asp?pageID=branch_open_directions&branchID=6
The reservation is for 6 PM until 7:45 (closes at 8 sharp), so I recommend announcing the starting time for 6:15 so there's time to set-up projector and arrange chairs.
Again, I'll provide a projector if you need one (1024x768 native but takes much higher input and scales cleanly).
There is also a large whiteboard in the room.
(Note that the library requires that it be free and open to the public of all ages.)
Feel free to update the wiki page, or I can do it if you send a summary. http://wiki.alu.org/LispSea

Daniel,
Here is a first pass on a summary - feel free to suggest changes.
"Lisp and Symbolic Programming From the Beginning"
This session will introduce the basic ideas that make Lisp a uniquely powerful programming language, illustrated with examples from biomedical applications, including molecular biology, drug interactions and cancer treatment. If time allows, we will introduce functional programming, CLOS, the Meta-Object Protocol and macros. If there is interest but insufficient time, a second session is possible.
The session is for both experienced Lispers and those new to Lisp.
Projector with 1024x768 is just fine. I will bring my own laptop.
I'm happy to talk to anyone who comes and listens.

The wiki and RSS feed have been updated: http://wiki.alu.org/LispSea
A formal announcement will go out 2 weeks in advance (i.e., this Thursday) and again about 24 hours before to remind everyone.
Thank again, Ira!!!

Yes, thank you Ira. I'll try to get as many people as I can to show up for this. Looking forward to it!
