[slime-devel] comma shortcut doesn't work always

Another minor glitch that I encountered is that the comma shortcut in the REPL doesn't always work. I can consistently reproduce it (GNU Emacs 21.3.50 and also 21.3 release) like this: 1. Make sure point is at the beginning of a REPL input line. 2. Split Emacs frame into two windows, one of them being the REPL the other one containing something else. 3. Hide REPL window with C-x 0. 4. Now type M-x slime. 5. Type the comma. At this point I'm not asked for a shortcut command in the minibuffer but the comma is simply entered into the REPL instead. Anybody else seeing this? CLISP still breaks for me in the latest CVS. I have had a look at all of the DEFSLIMEFUN's that were modified since 4/18 (the previous CVS version that I had which was working ok with CLISP) and haven't found any obvious clues. Any suggestions on how I might debug this issue as it occurs at startup during the slime-connect processing in Emacs (after CLISP has started up successfully)? - Bill

I missed being able to do M-q to reindent the current defun, like in ILISP. Here's the version I'm using. I'm not sure it's a SLIME question. I'm running debian and have the cmucl-source package installed and I like that it's possible to view these sources from a backtrace. I'd like to do the same with sbcl, but how? Thanks, Gabor

If an s-expr involves multiple-lines (ie. the s-expr is incomplete and RET is typed), Lisp enters the debugger with an EOF error during READ. I observe this problem with both CMUCL and Allegro. The SLIME info for 'REPL commands' says: `RET' `slime-repl-return' Evaluate the current input in Lisp if it is complete. If incomplete, open a new line and indent. If a prefix argument is given then the input is evaluated without checking for completeness.

[slime-devel] Quitting SLIME and buffer split bug

Greetings, I'm sure this question has already been asked but I can't figure out where to get the answer. So how do you quit SLIME in a clean way, that is by not killing SLIME buffers? I guess that SLIME-QUIT is not the right function. BTW I found out a little bug. When there is two Emacs buffers splitted vertically and you fire up SLIME, it switches to an horizontal split. Kind of annoying. And I think it will be a good idea to be able to switch off the string animation (by customization?). -- Frederic Brunel

[slime-devel] SLIME hangs mysteriously when compiling CL-PPCRE

Hi! This is with the current CVS SLIME (update a couple of minutes ago), GNU Emacs 21.3.50 from CVS (about a month ago), CMUCL 18e, and the current (0.7.7) CL-PPCRE on Linux x86. I can reproduce the problem like this: 1. Remove all FASL file (*.x86f) related to CL-PPCRE. 2. From a fresh Emacs start SLIME and then load the system CL-PPCRE. 3. CL-PPCRE is compiled but the REPL prompt never comes back. Instead, Emacs starts to use 99% of the CPU and is completely unresponsive, I have to kill it with xkill. I can compile CL-PPCRE from the command line without problems. Furthermore, this doesn't happen if CL-PPCRE is already compiled and has just to be loaded. I suspect this happens while SLIME tries to interpret CMUCL's compiler notes but I currently have no idea how to debug this. Cheers, Edi.
