Hi, slime-apropos-package now conforms to its specification and also sorts symbols printed with package prefix. I supply the patches as attachments in the hope that MS-Windows nor MS-Outlook will break the TAB and LF characters of the original diff. I hope this is fine. Regards, Jörg Höhle.

Another minor glitch that I encountered is that the comma shortcut in the REPL doesn't always work. I can consistently reproduce it (GNU Emacs 21.3.50 and also 21.3 release) like this: 1. Make sure point is at the beginning of a REPL input line. 2. Split Emacs frame into two windows, one of them being the REPL the other one containing something else. 3. Hide REPL window with C-x 0. 4. Now type M-x slime. 5. Type the comma. At this point I'm not asked for a shortcut command in the minibuffer but the comma is simply entered into the REPL instead. Anybody else seeing this? Hello, I recently upgraded to clisp 2.35 and now when I try to start slime on a lisp file, slime gets stuck. The *inferior-lisp* buffer shows me the following restart. ** - Continuable Error INTERN("*DOCUMENTATION*"): #<PACKAGE SYSTEM> is locked If you continue (by typing 'continue'): Ignore the lock and proceed The following restarts are also available: SKIP :R1 skip (COMPILE-FILES-IF-NEEDED-SERIALLY #) STOP :R2 stop loading file C:\Program Files\XEmacs\xemacs-packages\lisp\slime-1.2.1\swank-loader.lisp ABORT :R3 ABORT Doing 'continue', doesn't starts the slime repl, nor does selecting any of the restarts help. But, the inferior lisp buffer shows a lisp prompt, which can be used. What should I do to get over this problem? [slime-devel] Current way to use multiple lisp implementations?

I'd like to be able to easily choose between several lisp implementations when starting slime (sbcl, cmucl, clisp). The most recent message I was able to find, on http://article.gmane.org/gmane.lisp.slime.devel/3932 suggested using slime-register-lisp-implementation, but I see that this function has been deleted. What's the current 'right' way to do this?

[slime-devel] Slime lockup after returning from SLDB

I am running the CVS of SLIME as of 27-Oct-2005 in GNU Emacs 21.3.1 on Windows XP using CLISP 2.35 as the backend. After aborting an error that throws me into the SLDB I get no prompt in the SLIME REPL. If I try to evaluate a form or variable (or even a blank line), I get the following in the mini-buffer: ;pipelined request... (swank:listener-eval "form I evaluated") If I try to evaluate a form in another buffer I get a similar response: ;pipelined request... (swank:interactive-eval "form I evaluated") The inferior-lisp buffer seems to still be working perfectly when I evaluate a test form in it. I've discovered that if I use "M-x slime" I can get SLIME to break out of this lockup, but this is definitely non-optimal. Any help with this would be appreciated. While reading through the manual I ran across the the SWANK:*LOG-EVENTS* variable and turned it on. The log values were written to the SLIME REPL once it was created. Greetings all, I installed slime from CVS HEAD today (2005-10-26), and modified my init.el per the README; however, when I went to start slime, I ran into some problems. Specifically, the command buffer in emacs states: itimer "run-with-timer" signaled: (error "127.0.0.1/(^W1^H& Servname not supported for ai_socktype") I'm running XEmacs 21.4.17, and my clisp --version reports Software: GNU C 4.0.2. I'm running on the "breezy" version of Kubuntu Linux (Ubuntu). Has anyone run into this before? I'm new to Lisp and installing slime so I can go through some of the examples and exercises in the PCL book. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, -- Stuart

Hello, I just got a reject from ftpmaster (the person, not that server) for the slime package because some of a stupid packaging error on my part and because the readme says that there is no general license for the package and that you should check all files individualy. When you do that you see that: doc/texinfo-tabulate.awk present.lisp swank-ecl.lisp swank-source-file-cache.lisp swank-source-path-parser.lisp swank.asd mkdist.sh test-all.sh test.sh have no license information. nregex.lisp has a (sort-of) licence without permission to distribute or anything. [slime-devel] Strange startup behaviour

Hello all, I've been banging my head against this for a couple hours and haven't been able to figure out the problem, so I humbly ask for help or a pointer to the right place to ask: I'm attempting to run the current CVS SLIME with SBCL 0.9.5.50. When I hit M-x slime in emacs, compilation notes stream by, and then all action stops with the message: Lisp connection closed unexpectedly: connection broken by remote peer. Here's the weird part. If I start sbcl in a terminal and load up swank manually, connecting with M-x slime-connect from Emacs, everything works fine. I can't find anything enlightening in the *Messages* or *slime-events* buffers - it just quietly dies. Any ideas? --Paul

The behaviour of SBCL's threads is about to be changed wrt specials. Threads shall no longer inherit the values of specials from the parent. It will be quite similar to other threaded lisps in this regard. Light testing shows that everything works fine except typing (sb-thread:make-thread (lambda () (break))) at the repl does not bring up the debugger anymore. It's because install-debugger in swank.lisp does not set the *invoke-debugger-hook*: (setq sb-ext:*invoke-debugger-hook* #'swank-debugger-hook) Until now the value of *invoke-debugger-hook* established by a let binding was inherited by threads, but that's no longer be the case. Let me know if there are other problems lurking behind the surface with the new scheme. Cheers, Gábor

Hi all, I've written a few functions that might be used to save the history of SLIME REPLs to disk. Those are attached as a file. It might be an improvement to save the histories depending on the backend, I don't know. This is not implemented here. Currently the list can be written to a file in two ways: 1. Just overwrite the file with the current history 2. Try to merge the file contents with the current list and save the result. You can see that from the docstrings. Please note, that I did not test the truncating of the list to a maximum size. Also note that although I did test the functions, I have written them just a few hours ago, so they might still be buggy. The defvars should be changed to defcustoms and the functions should be hooked to wherever they make sense. If you are interested in using this code in -say- slime.el I'll pass copyright to you (as I state in the header of the attached file). If you prefer to receive a patch to slime.el I can do that, too. Just tell me. Hello. I'm using latest CVS slime with emacs 22.0.50.1 (from the latest emacs-snapshot debian package). When ansi-color-for-commit-mode is on, M-x slime barfs (i'm attaching the backtrace). Invoking slime again, and reusing the inferior-lisp, things work ok. I can reliably reproduce this behaviour with emacs -nw -q (the same happens without -nw) and then (add-to-list 'load-path ...) (require 'slime) (slime-setup) (require 'ansi-color) (ansi-color-for-commit-mode-on) (slime) The error happens also if i use sbcl instead of cmucl. Unfortunately, i'm not privy enough with slime.el or ansi-color.el to grok from the backtrace what's going on, so any help will be appreciated. I recently picked the latest slime code from cvs and attempted to run it using sbcl. I can't seem to get it to work and I'm not sure where to start looking for the problem. Perhaps my blindness is due to the fact that I'm absolutely new to lisp programming. Hi, Alceste Scalas noticed that the problematic xref.lisp file is only used by clisp, so removing it becomes a possibility. It would be painfull for the clisp hackers, but who needs xref anyway? :-) Then the only barriers between slime and main would be: -swank-ecl.lisp: we could remove this too, but I would prefer to have it with _some_ licence - doc/Makefile HACKING NEWS PROBLEMS README ChangeLog someone just has to declare then PD? I have just started playing with the emacs-unicode-2 branch from the emacs CVS repository. It was not happy with slime.el, choking on this piece of code: (define-key slime-doc-map (string modified) command) where modified is the result of (slime-control-modified-char key): A very large integer.
