[slime-devel] Standard output no longer appears in REPL

It's been a couple of months since I last used SLIME. Today I noticed that when I evaluate expressions in the REPL that write to *standard-output*, the output appears in the *inferior-lisp* buffer, but not in the REPL as it used to. I'm using GNU Emacs on Windows atop the CLISP Cygwin build. SLIME is up to date with CVS. Is there some new configuration required to restore the old behavior with output streams feeding into the REPL output? -- Steven E. Harris

FWIW, the following patch broke the clojure REPL (*inferior-lisp* still works, but not the fancy REPL): commit addc5be70a489cdc8ed555a2fed7273040da196e Author: Tobias C. Contains very simple pattern matcher from the CMU AI archive. * swank-loader.lisp: Compile swank-match.lisp. * swank.lisp: Make SWANK package use new SWANK-MATCH package. * slime-autodoc.el, swank-arglists.lisp: Large parts were rewritten. Autodoc is now able to highlight &key parameters, and parameters in nested arglists. * slime-parse.el, slime-c-p-c.el, slime-highlighting-edits.el: Adapted to changes. the symptom is the following: ; SLIME 2009-10-31 user> 3 3 user> (+ 3 4) at which point it just hangs... nothing (helpful) in *messages* or *inferior-lisp*. Reverting to the previous commit fixes the problem. It's really nice to be able to use git to quickly bisect the history to find the offending commit. Is there any current support for having the REPL respect reader macro characters? For example, if I define the [] pair to act like parentheses the repl shouldn't automatically send a multiline [ ] form to lisp until a matching ] has been found. On command line REPLs , reader macro characters aren't evaluated until a matching ] has been found.

ASDF operations using SLIME and SWANK won't work under Allegro's Modern (case-sensitive) lisp, because the symbol names are not in all caps as in ANSI lisp. [slime-devel] [patch] Fix warning position detection for allegro CL 8.2-beta

Hi, it seems the position format in the warning :PLIST slot has changed format in the upcoming Allegro CL release. Instead of (#P"somewhere" position), it's (#P"somewhere" position some-other-position) now, which leads to errors in the warning highlighting code. I've only ever observed these two values to be the same, so I patched the code to use the first value if there are more than one. If anyone with insight into how condition position detections for Allegro CL has a better solution, I'm sure it'll be appreciated. [slime-devel] Could we use split-string-and-unquote in swank.el?

Hello Slime developers, Could we use split-string-and-unquote instead of split-string to process inferior-lisp-program in swank.el? That would have the advantage of preserving spaces embedded in command arguments and names. This is very useful on systems were those are pervasive like MS-Windows... Here is attached a small patch against a recent tarball (2009-12-30) that implements the change. As far as I can tell that change does not break past normal behavior of the code. The LIST-THREADS slimefun fails for backends that don't implement ALL- THREADS, such as SBCL on MacOSX. [slime-devel] Lisp connection closed unexpectedly - some more quirks

I think this relates to a known error consisting unexpectedly closed connections: http://common-lisp.net/pipermail/slime-devel/2009-December/016985.html I've experienced this too [1], but in a strange context. Slime works fine for me on OS X 10.4 and 10.5 on a G4 powerbook when running in 1) Aqua emacs 2) OS X terminal emacs 22.3 3) normal X11 emacs 22.3 4) emacs 22.3 in an X11 xterm But I like to run Xephyr, an X server that runs inside another X11 in its own big window. For me, it interacts with Aqua spaces better than Apple X11, allowing a virtual window manager within a single Aqua space. So I have X11 running, and Xephyr running inside it. Works fine, mostly. But now the strange things happen: 5) slime works in an xterm emacs in Xephyr 6) slime often does not work in an X11 emacs 22.3 running in Xephyr, giving error [1] below This failure occurs with greatest likelihood when a large compilation is occurring, like a fink (OS X unix software) update. When the update stops, slime works again. The failure occurs equally for SBCL and CCL. The failure does not occur in an emacs running in an xterm, even inside Xephyr. I've tried increasing the system limits, including processes, memory, and open files, but it doesn't seem to help. Hence it looks a bit like it might be a subtle timing issue connected with running an inherently slow X11 emacs slowed further by the Xephyr layer while the system is bogged down doing other things.
