[slime-devel] fuzzy completion on buffer names?

There was a time when fuzzy completion was working on while typing buffer names. For example, I could just type "repl"and not have to type "*slime-r" to disambiguate various *slime... buffers. I don't know if I did something to turn this off or I need to do something now to turn it back on, but I miss it. I have searched for the setting without success. Any advice? Thanks Jeff

Hi there, Every time I C-c C-k on a file regardless of how small it may be, I am see a message lingering in the echo area for a few seconds, making me feel the compiliation is slow. Fontifying *SLIME Compilation*... (regexps.......................................................) Any idea how to fix this? Hi there, I wonder if this is a bug. It seems all slime compiled lisp files are saved to ~/.slime except swank-loader. And when this is installed in a directory where the user has no write access, it will cause swank to fail. Best wishes, Leo

Hi, In trying out Daniel Herring's new LibCL (http://libcl.com/) on Franz Allegro CL, I noticed something about LISP-VERSION-STRING which is in asdf-binary-locations, which evidently borrowed it from SLIME. There are actually four Lisp executables that come in an Allegro distribution, that differ in two orthogonal dimensions. One dimension, which LISP-VERSION-STRING accounts for, is the case mode, "ANSI" or "modern". The other is 8-bit strings vs. 16-bit strings; I noticed that LISP-VERSION-STRING doesn't take this into account (but the fasls are indeed incompatible). The 16-bit executables are the default; the other two have "8" appended to their names. Hello, I have what seems like a simple question that neither the docs nor the web have answered: my mode line seems to have some sort of error reporting feature, where the mode indicator reads Slime[package, ccl{1}], with this number in curly braces representing how many errors of some sort I've racked up. I can't for the life of me figure out what these errors are, where I can see further details, and how I can get that number to go away. More irritatingly, when I'm editing Lisp source, Slime has taken to flashing the {1} for an instant every time I type characters into the buffer. It appears for an instant, then disappears immediately. Presumably I've got a non-fatal misconfiguration somewhere that I don't know about, but this is very distracting. Can someone point out what's going on here? I'm using emacs CVS on Mac OS X (PPC), ccl version 1.4-dev-r12553-trunk and the last change in my slime CVS changelog is from 2009-08-04. Thanks! Eric

I want to send values to the repl from the Lisp image. (swank::eval-in-emacs '(slime-repl-send-string "(+ 1 1)")) Firstly, is there a simpler way to approach this? Secondly, the problem is that SLIME-DISPATCH-EVENT for an :EMACS-REX event returns the result of (SLIME-RECOMPUTE-MODELINES T), being: [nil 0 0 100000 nil slime-update-all-modelines nil idle] EVAL-IN-EMACS tries to read this and fails horribly throwing up the following error: error while parsing arguments to DESTRUCTURING-BIND: invalid number of elements in (SWANK-IO-PACKAGE::[NIL 0 0 100000 NIL SWANK-IO-PACKAGE::SLIME-UPDATE-ALL-MODELINES NIL SWANK-IO-PACKAGE::IDLE]) to satisfy lambda list (SWANK::VALUE): exactly 1 expected, but 8 found [Condition of type SB-KERNEL::ARG-COUNT-ERROR] As far as I can see, the solution is to have SLIME-REPL-SEND-STRING return T since there doesn't seem to be anything relying on this current behaviour. Hi all, I'm running a threaded SBCL version 1.0.30 with SLIME version 2009-08-19 in GNU Emacs verison 22.2.1. Non-ASCII characters break the connection to the REPL: CL-USER> "ğ" "ğ" The REPL is hung at this point. When I hit RET, the *inferior-lisp* buffer is flooded with text and the minibuffer reports: Lisp connection closed unexpectedly: connection broken by remote peer Relevant content of *inferior-lisp* buffer attached. Any suggestions as to how to solve/debug this problem much appreciated. Basic symbol completion is case sensitive: MAKE-INSTAN won't complete. (Given that CL symbol names are upper cased, this is broken as well as annoying). Compound completion can handle MAKE-INSTAN but not Make-instan. -nick

Hi, Here's a minor patch to add support for the `fd-handler' communication style in swank-ecl.lisp. I've only tested this with ECL 9.8.4 and SLIME CVS on OSX. I can't think of any reason why this shouldn't "just work" on any reasonable *nix on which ECL runs, and includes the SOCKETS and SERVE-EVENT modules. There is a known issue with this patch, with disconnecting from and reconnecting to the swank server. The reconnection will hang, until `(serve-event:serve-event)' is evaluated in the *inferior-lisp* buffer.
