[slime-devel] Is slime currently broken?

I have tried updating to the lastes slime from CVS and it will apparently not start, at least not as I am used to. The symptom is that I see the inferior lisp buffer in which lisp is starting up, then I get the "Connected" message, but no REPL buffer appears. This I have tested with both SBCL 1.0.39 and CCL (of some slightly older version), all on a fairly recent emacs 23. I have seen this both on Linux and OSX (though todays attempt was made only on OSX). I'm running slime /w sbcl on an ubuntu 10.04 amd64 machine. I use clbuild to generate lisp environments for each project I work on. Slime starts normally when I have a fresh checkout of slime and a fresh build of sbcl in a clbuild instance, compiled from the sbcl in the ubuntu lucid package pool, but only on the first invocation when there aren't any fasls. Upon subsequent invocations, when the environment tries to start up from the fasls generated previously, I get swank throwing to sldb with only an abort restart, which kills the slime startup entirely when selected. Previously slime was throwing the same warning, but it offered other restarts that allowed swank to start, and slime to connect. It would be great if somebody could point me toward a permanent fix for this. I should also note that I do not see this problem at all running Clozure Common Lisp against the same clbuild instance, so this looks like it may be a problem in SBCL, but after pfaffing about in the inspector for quite awhile, I still haven't narrowed down the problem -- debugging PEBCAK to be sure, but any help would be greatly appreciated! I found a theme I like that does not show the current argument of a function call in the highlighted face. I poked around the code, and the 'highlight' I found refers to the ==> and <== around args, but not the emacs face used, from what I can tell. What face do I need to define to show the active argument in the minibuffer?

The function CONTENT-RANGE uses the macro LCONS before the latter is defined, so I moved the definition of LCONS up. The recent changes result in an assertion error in HANDLE-REQUESTS in case one uses slime-connect to an already running swank server, and having (setq swank:*sldb-quit-restart* 'sb-thread:terminate-thread) in one's .swank.lisp. -T.

[slime-devel] calling SLIME's inspector from CL?

Hi, Is it possible to call slime's inspector from CL? This would come handy when I want to inspect a variable inside a function. If I call (inspect my-variable), I get SBCL's inspector, which is not nearly as nice as SLIME's. Currently, I work around this by saving the variable (eg (defparameter *my-variable* my-variable)) and inspect it after the function is finished, but doing it directly would be nicer. Thanks, Tamas
