[slime-devel] SLIME under Ubuntu 7.04 feisty

Hello, Has anyone used SLIME with ubuntu 7.04 feisty? I am having trouble doing it. I checked all over the web and couldn't find much. I am resorting to asking someone on the maillist. If I find the answer, I'll post it up on my blog for other's benefit. Anyway, I installed lisp via conventional means: sudo apt-get install clisp sudo apt-get install slime When I go into emacs and type "alt-x slime", I get the following error: [1]> *** - LOAD: A file with name /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/slime/swank-loader.lisp does not exist The following restarts are available: ABORT :R1 ABORT I have looked all over the internet and couldn't find the solution to this problem. I tried another 7.04 machine and had the same problem. I also tried altering my .emacs file as follows: (setq inferior-lisp-program "/usr/bin/clisp") (add-to-list 'load-path "/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/slime") (require 'slime) (slime-setup) Still the same problem. Anyone know the answer? - Steve

Quoth the docstring of slime-read-interactive-args: - If the prefix-arg is `-', prompt for one of the registered lisps. There is just one small problem with this: There is no way (that I know of) to get a prefix arg on an emacs running under a tty. How about changing the condition to include any negative argument? This bites me just often enough to be annoying. - Harald

The below patch works around the issue that Allegro does not record the source file location for methods defined inside a defgeneric form. The idea is that if the source location of a method is not found, then the defgeneric form is almost certainly the right place. For example: (defgeneric foo (x) (:method ((x fixnum)) (/ 1 0))) Calling (foo 123) and hitting "v" in the traceback would result in "Unknown source location for (method common-lisp-user::foo)" but with the patch leads correctly to the defgeneric form. Hi, If the user uses slime-call-defun in a file without a package defined the function in the repl will have a nil package like (nil::foo ). The attached patch fixes it. (I know that it's not a good style to develop without packages, but I teach using slime and it's good not to use packages in the beginning) Cheers, Pedro

I'm trying to output my trace results to the slime repl in emacs. I assume I have to set *trace-output* to the slime output window, but I don't know accomplish this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Aaron

[slime-devel] Incompatible change in SBCL 1.0.18.10

Hi, SBCL 1.0.18.10 makes a change to a structure in a way that affects SLIME. The attached patch to today's anonymous CVS seems to work for both the new SBCL and older ones. Please let me know if it's not up to snuff for merging. -- RmK

There is a problem in trying to use the abstract namespace for AF_LOCAL. Address in the abstract namespace are _not_ C strings. >From man 7 unix (domain sockets): Address Format A Unix address is defined as a filename in the filesystem or as a unique string in the abstract namespace. ... *If sun_path starts with a null byte (’’ ’), then it refers to the abstract namespace maintained by the Unix protocol module. The socket’s address in this namespace is given by the rest of the bytes in sun_path. Note that names in the abstract namespace are not zero-terminated.* Would it be possible to pass a byte array as an address, or support a subtype of LOCAL-SOCKET that requires #\Nul characters to be specified explicitly? Hi--I'm sort of new to Lisp (last time I tried programming Lisp was about 18 years ago), so I decided to watch the famous SLIME video. Various sites point to it as being at http://common-lisp.net/movies/slime.mov , but it isn't there, and my Web searches out and found a copy of it anywhere else. If somebody from common-lisp.net can investigate this and repair this link, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
