Another one: One of the things my .lispworks file does is (change-directory "/somewhere") Apparently, that file is read after SLIME has synced the directories between Emacs and LW. Is there any form that I can put into my .lispworks file to force the two (from the CL side) to re-sync? Thanks, Edi.

[slime-devel] Patch for additional slime-pop-find-definition-stack binding

Since SLIME shadows the find-tag binding M-. with its command slime-edit-definition, I think it should also shadow pop-tag-mark, which is bound to M-* in Emacs, with slime-pop-find-definition-stack. (At least in my head, M-* is hardwired as the opposite of M-.) As a long time ILISP user, I am missing an equivalent of call-defun-lisp (bound to C-c C-y), which inserts into the REPL a call to the function currently looked at in a Lisp buffer. First of all, many thanks to all SLIME developers for creating this useful piece of software. I use SLIME with Allegro CL, where I mix CL code with Scheme code, using a home-grown Scheme translator. My Scheme code lives in Emacs buffers in scheme-mode. Most things work fine, but the command slime-compile-file complains if it is not called from a buffer in lisp-mode. I propose to apply the patch below, which introduces a new variable containing a list of modes where Slime commands make sense. After a major software upgrade and various CVS problems, after over a month I have finally updated my working copy of SLIME's CVS tree. But when I start SLIME with CMUCL, I get this error related to my ~/.swank.lisp: ;; Loading #P"/home/paolo/.swank.lisp". Reader error at 56 on #<Stream for file "/home/paolo/.swank.lisp">: Symbol "*SLDB-PPRINT-FRAMES*" not found in the SWANK package. [Condition of type LISP::READER-PACKAGE-ERROR] Restarts: 0: [CONTINUE] Use symbol anyway. 1: Return NIL from load of #P"/home/paolo/.swank.lisp". 2: Return NIL from load of "/home/paolo/src/slime/swank-loader.lisp". 3: [ABORT ] Return to Top-Level. [slime-devel] slime-edit-definition suggestion (with patch)

just a quick hack to replace some code in my .emacs. feel free to ignore. currently slime-edit-definition takes an optional arg that when t will use a separate window. this patch changes that arg to instead be one of 'window or 'frame. if 'frame, it'll use switch-to-buffer-other-frame. the patch, as written, is not backwards-compatible with the old version. if that is important, it'd be trivial to rework the logic to use a frame when 'frame and window when non-nil. i imagine that most existing code wanting the other-window behavior uses slime-edit-defintion-other-window. this patch also changes the prompt in slime-edit-definition-other-window to "Symbol:" to be consistent with slime-edit-definition. one additional change (not in the patch) would be to bind s-e-d-o-w to "C-x 4 M-." and s-e-d-o-f to "C-x 5 M-.". i'm not up on my emacs keybinding standards.. so perhaps this is considered rude. ...bryan
