[slime-devel] Several *inferior-lisp* buffers?

I'm currently using a setup where i usually run at least two instances of cmucl under ilisp. Ilisp handles this very cleanly using DEFDIALECT in elisp. Anybody got any tips on that? How does the *slime-repl* like it if I try to switch it from one *inferior-lisp* buffer to another? Should I try to rename the *slime-repl* buffer ? (Just tried that, and the *slime-repl-1* seems to have died. If it's only one or two more variables that need to be made buffer-local, I can handle that. Should I try to make slime handle only *inferior-lisp* and the source files that go with that image, and then let ilisp handle the other image and the files that go with /that/ ? I guess this will mean some hacking, so this will be my first priority in getting comfy with slime, I'll try to get used to the keybindings. :-)

[slime-devel] New user, and keybindings revisited

Hi, I finally decided to have a test-drive of slime, and I must say installation went _very_ smootly with cmucl-18e. This feels almost like opening the christmas-loot. That's about as far as I've come, but one thing that struck me was that M-, is not "FIND-NEXT-*". I remember the keybindings being posted several times for comments somewhere (comp.lang.lisp I guess). At the time I was not paying attention, so feel free to file this under "too late", but just as one data-point I'll let you know that I would like it if slime switched from using the slime-specific "SLIME-FIND-DEFINITION-HISTORY-RING" into using the normal GLOBAL-MARK-RING. That way one could use C-X C-SPC for popping back, and have M-, free for some future SLIME-EDIT-NEXT-FDEFINITION. I know there have been cases where I had a previous and a current version of some system open, and being able to jump from a call-site to both old and new easily saved a _lot_ of time. That was using ilisp. There is also the case of g-fs that can legitimately have several methods with the same "name".

Committed, thanks! I think we have some redundant code for minibuffer completion just now (slime-completing-read* should be replaced by slime-read-from-minibuffer I think). I'll hack it after getting a couple of days's Real Work out of the way unless someone beats me to it.

Was anyone else having problems with minibuffer completion? The problem I'm seeing is that slime-completing-read-internal returns "((choices) best)" but its callers seem to expect just "(choices)". Anyways, this patch fixes that, and removes an extra paren in slime-documentation. /s
