[slime-devel] Small xemacs change to make arglists work

With lots of help from Tobias on #lisp, I've discovered an issue with slime-forward-cruft. I think xemacs doesn't understand "[:space:]" in skip-chars-forward. Changing that to "[\\s]" makes arglists work. The issue shows up when trying to get autodoc[1] to show the arglist for "(cos". This failed because it was looking for "os". The above fix makes it work again. Thanks to Tobias for helping me find this. Ray [1] Yes, I know slime-autodoc is disabled for xemacs, but I have a verbatim copy of eldoc from emacs that runs just fine on xemacs, so I hacked slime-autodoc not to error out when loaded for xemacs.

Should C-c C-k try to load a resulting fasls file ALWAYS? Should it only do so if COMPILE-FILE did not return T as failurep? >From glancing, SBCL's and CMUCL's swank backends do the latter. Most other backends use an implementation dependent :LOAD keyword argument to COMPILE-FILE which I haven't checked what their semantics are on this matter. I wouldn't be surprised if the differ. The thing is that I sometimes want the first behaviour (early stage of development), sometimes the latter (precious state in the image). If C-c C-k always loaded, you could get the other behaviour by using C-c M-k instead (compile only) and C-c C-l afterwards if compilation didn't fail. If C-c C-k regarded failurep, you could force loading afterwards by C-c C-l. So both behaviours are available. I just pledge for consistency across backends. -T.

[slime-devel] Update swank-cmucl for cmucl 20

Here is a small patch for swank-cmucl. Basically, treats cmu19 and cmu20 as the same. I'm not sure what effect this has, but it doesn't break anything that I can tell. In particular read-into-simple-string is no longer defined, but it's not defined in cmucl 20 either, so it wasn't used anyway. Ray

[slime-devel] Problem with debugger view source

Hi, I cannot seem to get sldb-show-source to work using sbcl. I have tried with recent Ubuntu 10.04 packages: emacs 23.1+1-4ubuntu7 slime 1:20090908-1 sbcl 1:1.0.29.11-1ubuntu1 I also tried a test machine where I downloaded: sbcl 1.0.42 slime snapshot 2010-08-31 On my test setup: I wrote some trivial lisp code that included a (break) to start the debugger. When running sldb-show-source on a frame from my source file, I get the following in my REPL output: "WARNING: inconsistent form-number-translations" and I also get this in the emacs message echo area: "error in process filter: Beginning of buffer" Any idea why this is happening? [slime-devel] Turn off stepping with cmucl?

I finally got around to playing with slime's stepper. It's not exactly clear how to get this enabled, but what I did was trace some function with :break t. When the debugger starts, I can then use slime to single-step. This works pretty well. However, after I'm done and untrace the function, I still get stepping breakpoints in the function. How are these breakpoints supposed to be removed? Also, from the code, it seems that slime inserts stepping breakpoints at all possible locations in a function. Can't it just single-step the way cmucl's native debugger steps by inserting the breakpoint, running, and then removing the breakpoint? Ray

Here are a couple of replacement functions that make slime disassemble work with cmucl/sparc. The disassembly works for me on cmucl/sparc. The foreign source location appears to work, but the only foreign function I've been able to test with is call_into_lisp which doesn't have any line info. But slime recognizes that and prints a message to that affect.
