[slime-devel] [PATCH] ABCL broken with contrib/swank-asdf.lisp

ABCL uses a very primitive version of ASDF because of the lack of an implementation of the long form of DEFINE-METHOD-COMBINATION. This causes Stas Boukarev's implementation on Tue Dec 15 of SLIME-RELOAD-SYSTEM to fail under ABCL with complaints of being unable to resolve the symbol ASDF:AROUND. The attached patch at least allows ABCL to load SLIME but makes the SLIME-RELOAD-SYSTEM still recompile the dependencies leading to slightly inconsistent behavior. I was already looking into how to implement the long form of DEFINE-METHOD-COMBINATION for ABCL, but even if I get that working, we will still have a fair number of ABCL implementations broken with SLIME HEAD until they update their implementations, so I would like to patch SLIME in some manner. I have commit rights to SLIME to add my kludge, but would like to solicit the comments of other maintainers before I add such macro conditionals to other's code. Im trying to use ECL on windows with slime , compiled using microsoft visual c++. But. Not qutie working! I have a server that I can connect to via Slime and Swank to modify the image from Emacs. I'd like to programmatically send a command from Clozure on my laptop to compile and load a new file on the server. Is there any documentation for Swank that shows how to do this? Thanks, Patrick

With the recent changes to swank.lisp (in revision 1.676), the start-up of SLIME triggers the following error: (BOUNDP 'SWANK:*SLDB-QUIT-RESTART*) must evaluate to a non-NIL value. [Condition of type SIMPLE-ERROR] This error is triggered with CLisp (version 2.47 or 2.48), but is not triggered with SBCL (version 1.0.30). The error occurs while running Emacs 23.1 with slime.el, revision 1.1256. The steps to trigger the error is to start SLIME with the command 'M-x slime'. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MCLIDE is a free open source Macintosh IDE for Lisp implementations on any platform. It's a double-clickable, stand-alone development environment that just like SLIME connects to a Lisp running a Swank server. The first public beta of MCLIDE 1.0 is now available from: http://mclide.in-progress.com This version of MCLIDE is verified to work with Clozure CL (a.k.a. OpenMCL) and Macintosh Common Lisp (MCL) as target lisp implementations. It can potentially be used with the same Lisp implementations as SLIME. MCLIDEs user interface is based on the mature IDE of Macintosh Common Lisp. It provides rich interactive development and debugging tools in the form of dialogs interacting with the target Lisp. MCLIDE provides a consistent developer experience regardless of the Lisp. It can be used on the same computer as a Lisp system, or target one or more Lisp implementations on other computers or operating systems.
