One way to do it, is to call (require 'slime-autodoc) in a slime-load-hook, and make sure that the load hook is actually called. Manually you could do it with: 1.) M-x load-library slime 2.) M-x load-library slime-autodoc 3.) M-: (setq slime-use-autodoc-mode t) 4.) M-x slime Helmut.
