My configuration is: Emacs 21.3.1 and CMU CL 18e under Linux.
swank:arglist-string always returns NIL for generic functions. I have investigated the problem and here is a tiny patch:

If you want to apply the patch and to mention my name in ChangeLog, use unmodified e-mail (with +nospam@). Or do not mention e-mail at all.

Good catch! generic-function-pretty-arglist is not present in newer versions of CMUCL, but (pcl::arg-info-lambda-list (pcl::gf-arg-info <f>)) seems to do the trick.
