I shifted to mod_proxy when I shifted from TBNL to Hunchentoot. :) We have run it under heavy load at www.cleartrip.com and it works like a charm. There are advantages of running behind Apache(s) and especially so as independent proxied application servers. It's also a cleaner design IMHO.
