[toronto-lisp] Pattern Matching in CL

Do any of you have experience with pattern-matching packages in CL? By this I do not mean only regular expression stuff such as in CL-PPCRE, but rather pattern-matching for function definition as in Haskell, OCaml, the Racket match function, etc. (Although perhaps CL-PPCRE does this also;, but I am only familiar with the string-handling stuff in CL-PPCRE.) My question is: If I want to mimic what is possible in Haskell, ML and kin, etc. what is the best CL stuff for pattern matching? I have looked at CL-MATCH but find the documentation a bit hard to penetrate. I am in a bit of a hurry to get something done that pattern matching would really help, so any recommendations are welcome. Best, - Dave -

A formidable Lisp bot, written by a Hungarian programmer, is leading the rankings by a respectable margin in the latest Google AI challenge: http://ai-contest.com/rankings.php Let's cheer him on, and hope he stays in 1st place :) I found out about this challenge too late and, although I played around with the Lisp Starter Pack last week, didn't have time to write a decent bot. Not sure if it works the same on Lispworks, but in SBCL + Emacs/SLIME, you can target your library archive directly with ASDF instead of relying on the automated download. In other words (require 'asdf) (require 'asdf-install) (asdf-install:install "/path/to/your/cl-ppcre.tar.gz") Obviously, you'll want to use the windows file path in place of that one. As long as the tarball has that asd file in it, it should work. Now, for this library, you should just be able to do (asdf-install:install 'cl-ppcre) instead of getting your own download (this is probably what is meant by "the usual way"). cl-ppcre is well maintained, so ASDF should be able to handle the download for you unless the CLiki is down for whatever reason. -Leo PS. I remember the first few weeks of learning Lisp. It was goddamn infuriating. If it's any consolation at all, the feeling passes once you get your bearings. I am at a bank behind a firewall, and, my previous crash seemed to indicate that something went wrong in ports.lisp (networking??). So I did a quick look see for the word proxy in asdf-install, and lo-and-behold, I found in defpackage.lisp an area where I could possibly configure proxy info... Now, my proxy information is as follows: Hostname is something.secret.rbc.com Port is 8080 Username someusername Password supersecret The proxy is an http proxy - how would you configure the parameters below, so that it will take these parameters above to configure the defpackage.lisp below. It's an http proxy, and I don't notice anywhere the ability to set up the port value.. Any ideas? Ok, so I downloaded the latest 6.0.1 Lispworks for windows, and I do not see anywhere in the gui even a mention of ASDF - there is no "button"... On their web site, they state that they have ASDF integration in IDE - I don't see it. The link in their web pages takes me here: To use ASDF in the LispWorks IDE: 1. Load ASDF and some ASDF system definitions in the usual ASDF way. 2. Hi there, I have come across something that I need just a little bit of help with. I managed to write some lisp code to read a flat file, line by line. I also managed to put those lines of code into something like this: ( ( "A,MSFT.N,D,12.4,12:43:00") ( "f,IBM.N,f,108.4,11:09:023") ) All comma delineated text files. Now, I would like to convert this into something that I can deal with from a lisp perspective - I would like to get so that these values are symbols - so this is what I really want: ( ( A MSFT.N D 12.4 12:43:00 ) ( f IBM.N f 108.4 11:09:023 ) ) I noticed that there is a function called INTERN which seems to convert a regular string to a symbol, but, I don't really have a regular string, I have a "mess" as shown above. Any idea on how I can go from a messed up single long string, to a bunch of symbols, so I can finally start dealing with the symbols in the line from a file a "lisp way"?
