* Discussion
** AutoLISP and its use in industrial programming
*** John Walker - cofounder of Autodesk
www.fourmilab.ch
+ Book: "The autodesk file" : Early history of Autodesk
Required reading for software startups
*** AutoCAD Electrical
Program that automates making drawings for use in factories
Nate Holt
Lisp software. 250K lines of code. Only 2 programmers writing it.
Said to always meet deadlines with fewer bugs than the competition.
** Clojure
Why is it the most commercially used mostly-functional language? ->
concurrency
JVM good. Java bad.
*** Datomic
Immutable database by Rich Hickey
Time-based queries
+ Helps with testing
Interface language : Datalog
** Erlang
Hot code-swapping isn't a feature. It just happens when you have
tail-recursion and immutable state
** Programming in industry
*** Bad onions
One person makes a tool, and future programmers build filters upon
them. Sometimes its best to just start over
*** Authentication in industry
+ There is none
+ HP printers
Its possible to update their firmware, turn them into zombies and
attack an office with them.
** Reading material
*** Fred Brooks
Mythical man-month : no silver bullet : IT managers should read this
*** Joel on Software

Erlang port of a 4chan-like image board
Uses Erlang web-framework called Nitrogen : http://nitrogenproject.com/
Comet: protocol to keep http sessions alive
really like the videos. the hash DOS is awesome. seems similar to level 7
DOS attacks, but much much better.
the TOR stuff was very eye opening.

I can vouch that the Tor and Doctorow talks are interesting. Seriously,
watch them.
Still working my way through the other ones (I may have to send "Print me
if you dare" to my boss; we do a lot of stuff for various clients that use
HP printers).

Pssst... linuxcaffe has closed down; any preference on another place? I'll
be at the timmy's outside of Christie Station in the meanwhile.

Hello!
If my memory serves me correctly, today is the first Tuesday of July:
[The Toronto Lisp Users' Group] meets on the first Tuesday of every
month, at LinuxCaffe, just south of Christie subway station.
Meetings start at 6pm and will generally go to about 8pm.
I hope to see you at the Linux Caffe tonight!

Hi!
Those present at the most recent meeting (or who read my attempt at
minutes) may recall the amusing discussion we had about parsing command
line options.
I think I'm done -- these guys seem to have it covered:
http://challenge.docopt.org
Sigh. But I was so /good/ at parsing command lines...
