Might be too soon to say it, there's only one source on teh Wikipedia page about it and it seems like everyone's linking back to the Wikipedia page as if it were the source :S

Sad news, if true. And the pioneers are starting to get rather ancient, so it's likely that there will be more of them passing away soon, as simple consequence of 'actuarial effects.'
