Ahoy, I want to change the package name in xref.lisp from XREF to PXREF (P for portable). I like the program and this way I can load it into CMUCL without package name conflicts. Any objections?

[slime-devel] OT: SBCL mailing lists registration not working.

Hi there, I thought I would post this here as I am sure some of you on this list are involved with the sbcl project, and I have hit a dead end so please forgive my last ditch attempt. I have made several attempts to register with the sbcl mailing lists to no avail. I have been taken to the mailman register page (similar to the slime one) and put in all the relevant information, but unlike the slime list I have never received a confirmation mail, and have not been made part of the list. I tried sending a message to the project admin through the sourceforge interface but have received no response there either. If anyone is involved in the sbcl project, can they let someone on the project know that the mailman interface seems to be malfunctioning, and can someone let me know when it is up and running so I can register? Thanks in advance and sorry this is so off topic. rohan

I'm not sure the following command is generally useful or not. I usually work the following way: I want to start an Emacs to handle some specific problem. So I go to the file where I want to edit, start up a Lisp, load the file, set the package, call some functions, edit, call some more functions. The following command finds the current package, loads that package and sets the package name, thereby saving me a whole lot of typing. If useful, this could be bound to a key like `C-c M-l'. Hello, All! clisp-2.33 XEmacs21.4 win32-nt5.1 i have problems with russian(cyrillic) characters. when any of this characters has to be displayed it dies - i think there is an exception - something like "cannot convert cyrillic charset:windows-1251 character to charset:iso-8859-1" when sending to socket. xemacs works with windows-1251 charset, so i thought that it will be Ok if they will comunicate in windows-1251 and there will be no difference for other characters. however, it refuses to work with anything except iso-8859-1 or windows-1252 - it dies: --- ;; Swank started at port: 3171. *** - Program stack overflow. I was using Emacs to do some Lisp code browsing the other day. Along the way, I was trying to jump around to some definitions. I tried using M-. but the code had not been compiled or loaded into the inferior Lisp process. As a result, SLIME complained that it didn't know about the defun I was looking for. I turned off SLIME mode and generated a tags file using standard emacs. Using standard emacs Lisp-mode, I was able to browse the definitions using the tags file. So, the question is, is it possible for SLIME to fall back to using the tags file like emacs Lisp-mode when it's standard behavior fails? Now, I could just go around turning off slime-mode every time I load a file, but that's really a pain. Since I have set up a mode hook, every Lisp file loads with slime-mode by default, which is how I want things most of the time when I'm developing. The problem is when trying to browse a library. Even if you turn slime-mode off for one file, it turns itself back on as soon as you use M-. with standard lisp-mode. -- Dave Roberts <ldave(a)droberts.com>

I've been using Slime for a couple of days now, and it seems really spiffy and snappy. Things generally just are much faster and easier than in ILISP, which I used before. This is a case of unexpected behavior. It could also be a nasty case of user error. It's also possible that this is an SBCL bug. If that is the case, I can report the issue on sbcl-devel. If I do a M-x slime-disconnect and then a M-x slime-connect, I am unable to reconnect to the inferior lisp process. Typing (quit) in the repl is probably not a friendly thing to do. I don't know how difficult it would be to know to close the inferior lisp process so that it can be started fresh with another M-x slime command. Perhaps an M-x slime-end-session or something would be a nice thing? Or is the general preference to just exit Emacs and start over? -- I wouldn't mind the rat race so much if it wasn't for all the damn cats.

[slime-devel] ABORT restart in OpenMCL not working

Howdy, If you fire up SLIME in OpenMCL and pull up SLDB (e.g. with (/ 1 0)) then it seems the ABORT restart ('a') doesn't work. Invoking it seems to just return nil instead of aborting the evaluation. Anyone know what's up?
