[regex-coach] Getting it going on linux

Hello, I am running a Debian flavour of Linux. I have installed from the tar but when I try to execute the file ( <Enter> while in Midnight Commander)I get the following message Error: Could not register handle for external module #:CAP: libXm.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I have a link on the desktop, with the .desktop file in /Desktop and properties set to point to the executeable, but no luck there either, a different problem that may be of my own making so will leave that there (can't find the executeable) My version runs fine on XP but I really need to get it going in Linux where I am working with Perl. I suppose that I am missing libXm.so2 so can anyone please point me to that. Thank you so much Anne ---- Anne Wainwright

[regex-coach] Feature request: turn off real time option

This is the best tool for building RegEx's I've found! Thanks, Edi! I use it to test expressions that search OCR text for multiple-date formats and invoice information. Sometimes I have long expressions and large target strings. When this happens, I would really like to be able to turn off the real time testing because my machine takes a while to process each keystroke - it would be cool to turn this feature off or only search when the text has not changed for >0.7 seconds (configurable?) or maybe on a key-combination. I would also like Regex Coach to fix all my OCR errors, make my tea and remind me about my wife's birthday.. ;-) Great product! --Dave

Is there a place on the regex coach homepage that states the most current version? I'm often not sure if I have the current version or not. Could you say somewhere, "The current version is...?" Hi, First of all thank you for this software and the time you spent on it. This is definitely my regex tool of choice. I think the following UI features would be great to implement for more... comfort :) : - more than one "undo" level (Ctrl-Z only works once) - highlighting of matching brackets (would really help in complex expressions) - allow inserting tabs (with tab key) in the regex field (right now, it gives the focus to the target string field) That's it, the rest is awesome! [regex-coach] Groovy and Java Regular Expressions

I've written a copy (call it a homage) of Regex Coach. It allows you to play around with Java regular expressions, as defined at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/util/regex/Pattern.html and I can run it on my Mac and debian boxes. It implements only the _very basics_ of Edi Weitz wonderful Regex Coach, allowing you to enter a regex and observe the hilighted matches (including captured groups). [regex-coach] Lauching TRC with a regexp as argument?

Hello, I'm looking for a way to run The Regex Coach from an editor and to "feed" it with a regexp the user would select. I know how to read the selection in the editor, however I found no way to run TRC with the regexp as argument... Is this actually possible (using an obscure command-line option...) ? Thanks!

Hi Dr. Weitz, I've been using The Regex Coach periodically for a while now, and have recommended it to many people. I've also used the Linux version on my Ubuntu laptop, and am sorry to see that go. I have 1 trivial feature idea, for your consideration. I work for a Network Security Monitoring company and often do regexps for logs for different customers. Thus, the default stance of saving the previous expression and target are a potential information leak for me. I make an effort to clear the panes before I close the tool, but that's manual and error prone. I guess I could come up with a way to nuke the appropriate settings in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Edi Weitz\The Regex Coach\Panes", but before I do that I thought I'd throw the idea out there. It might be nice to have settings like: Don't save ANY settings or values Don't save: Regex, Replacement or Target pane values Not a big deal, just a thought. Oh, one other trivial detail, 0.9.1 (http://common-lisp.net/pipermail/regex-coach/2007-January/000169.html) is not listed in http://weitz.de/regex-coach/changelog.txt, the latest it has is 0.9.0.
