[slime-devel] comma shortcut doesn't work always

Another minor glitch that I encountered is that the comma shortcut in the REPL doesn't always work. I can consistently reproduce it (GNU Emacs 21.3.50 and also 21.3 release) like this: 1. Make sure point is at the beginning of a REPL input line. 2. Split Emacs frame into two windows, one of them being the REPL the other one containing something else. 3. Hide REPL window with C-x 0. 4. Now type M-x slime. 5. Type the comma. At this point I'm not asked for a shortcut command in the minibuffer but the comma is simply entered into the REPL instead. Anybody else seeing this? CLISP still breaks for me in the latest CVS. I have had a look at all of the DEFSLIMEFUN's that were modified since 4/18 (the previous CVS version that I had which was working ok with CLISP) and haven't found any obvious clues. Any suggestions on how I might debug this issue as it occurs at startup during the slime-connect processing in Emacs (after CLISP has started up successfully)? - Bill

I missed being able to do M-q to reindent the current defun, like in ILISP. Here's the version I'm using. I'm not sure it's a SLIME question. I'm running debian and have the cmucl-source package installed and I like that it's possible to view these sources from a backtrace. I'd like to do the same with sbcl, but how? Thanks, Gabor

If an s-expr involves multiple-lines (ie. the s-expr is incomplete and RET is typed), Lisp enters the debugger with an EOF error during READ. I observe this problem with both CMUCL and Allegro. The SLIME info for 'REPL commands' says: `RET' `slime-repl-return' Evaluate the current input in Lisp if it is complete. If incomplete, open a new line and indent. If a prefix argument is given then the input is evaluated without checking for completeness.

[slime-devel] Quitting SLIME and buffer split bug

Greetings, I'm sure this question has already been asked but I can't figure out where to get the answer. So how do you quit SLIME in a clean way, that is by not killing SLIME buffers? I guess that SLIME-QUIT is not the right function. BTW I found out a little bug. When there is two Emacs buffers splitted vertically and you fire up SLIME, it switches to an horizontal split. Kind of annoying. And I think it will be a good idea to be able to switch off the string animation (by customization?). -- Frederic Brunel

[slime-devel] SLIME hangs mysteriously when compiling CL-PPCRE

Hi! This is with the current CVS SLIME (update a couple of minutes ago), GNU Emacs 21.3.50 from CVS (about a month ago), CMUCL 18e, and the current (0.7.7) CL-PPCRE on Linux x86. I can reproduce the problem like this: 1. Remove all FASL file (*.x86f) related to CL-PPCRE. 2. From a fresh Emacs start SLIME and then load the system CL-PPCRE. 3. CL-PPCRE is compiled but the REPL prompt never comes back. Instead, Emacs starts to use 99% of the CPU and is completely unresponsive, I have to kill it with xkill. I can compile CL-PPCRE from the command line without problems. Furthermore, this doesn't happen if CL-PPCRE is already compiled and has just to be loaded. I suspect this happens while SLIME tries to interpret CMUCL's compiler notes but I currently have no idea how to debug this. Cheers, Edi.

The generic function is stored in a library file "xml-xform.lisp" while the specialized methods are stored in an example file "resume.lisp". Only the non-specialized (default) method in "resume.lisp" is showing up with a :POSITION value. Don't know if that provides any clues. Ahoy, Personally I'm finding the source-file cache really helpful when doing M-. with modified buffers, but it only works for some types of location. The `code-location' we get from function objects contains the mtime of the source file at the time of compilation, which we can check against the file and the cache. But `source-locations' that we get for classes from PCL and `xref-contexts' don't have this timestamp. What to do? I'm tempted to try hacking CMUCL to include mtime in the other locations too, but I'm not 100% certain that the caching approach is right. Any opinions? -Luke

When I use M-. on a defun or macro, I am taken to the source location. However, when I use M-. on a method that has multiple implementations, I am not getting taken to the source location correctly in every instance. Instead, I get the following results (all tests are on Win2000): LispWorks (works but not consistently): The "*XREF[definition: node-xform] *" buffer is opened with a list of the different specialized methods. When I positon the cursor on the correct method and press enter, I am taken to the correct method definition. The "*XREF[definition: node-xform]*" buffer remains open. If I then select another method implementation in the " *XREF[definition: node-xform]*" buffer and press enter, nothing happens. Either the "*XREF[definition: node-xform]*" buffer should be closed after the first method is selected or the selection functionality should be still active. Allegro (never works): The "*XREF[definition: node-xform]*" buffer is opened with a list of the different specialized methods. When I positon the cursor on the correct method and press enter, I get the following error message: "Unkown source location for (METHOD NODE-XFORM (T (EQL 'WORK)))" despite the fact that there is such a method available. Greetings, I'm trying to get slime to work with sb-aclrepl from sbcl's contrib directory, but without any luck. Sb-aclrepl works fine if I just run sbcl, but once I run it under slime as well it stops responding. Is there a way to get slime and aclrepl to work together? Regards martin

[slime-devel] long condition reports in sldb

I often get errors that have long error reports in sldb. sldb doesn't do wraparound so reading these is difficult - I often cut/paste into some other buffer to see it. My emacs chops are not such that I know how to repair this in an elegant way. Does anyone have a suggestion? I suppose I could have emacs wrap the region. Is this the best that can be done?
