[Clo-devel] symlinks in /var/www

Ok, after popular demand, I have removed the cron approach to updating the www directories for the projects. /project/<project-name>/public_html is now being symlinked to from /var/www/project/<project-name> so any changes you make will be instant. I'm thinking about doing the same with FTP but that would mean I couldn't do the chroot anymore (unless I'm missing something) and I'm not sure we want to do that yet. Erik.

Dir friends, I am a novice in AI area,and now I'm learning Machine Learning by myself.When reference some book,I have got some lisp code to carry out so as to check the algrithm,but I don't know where I could get such develop soft. In our lab the students seldom use such language,and I just found some free environments for Linux via net search,but we all use MS windows here..... So,when I see this site in google directories,I think maybe it could help,but I didn't see any information useful on it except this mail list. So....Who will be so kind to give me some hint,"A free common lisp develop environment for MS windows".You just need to tell me the name or link. And I am a student in P.R.China, here we just know lisp and prolog from AI textbook,and I never heard anyone develop things with it now. Who can tell me what I can use if I want to develop a little Expert System? And what is the current most-used AI language and develop environment? Just had a request (from Iban Hatchondo) to install Bugzilla or something similar for projects. What are your opinions? To me it sounds useful to have a bugtracker of some sorts. Is Bugzilla the one we want to go with? Erik.

[Clo-devel] ftp, public_html, naming and site design.

1) i've got some files in /project/bese/ftp and /project/bese/public_html which don't seem to get copied into the public www and ftp directories. [monday i ran a lot of ssh connections (abusing arch can do this) and eventually couldn't connect (i got out of memory errors so i assume i ran into some quota), but the problem fixed itself today. i don't know if these two things are related.] 2) i'd also like to put a copy of /project/bese/bese-devel(a)common-lisp.net under the www directory, is this doable? it could just be a symlink or a every-so-often updated copy, considering that it's a pretty big directory. 3) i don't want to offend anyone's tastes but i find the common-lisp.net site a little plain. i tried to come up with something a bit more colorful: http://www.bese.it/~segv/common-lisp.net/index2.html http://www.bese.it/~segv/common-lisp.net/index3.html i don't like those two designs either, but hey, i gave it my best. if you like 'em, use 'em; if you hate 'em, ignore 'em; if this is really arrogant and presumptuos of me ... sorry. 4) i've been following the project naming discussion on irc and admin(a)common-lisp.net, if i may: how many different rfc2833 implementations for common lisp are there? I think that as long as the names are discriptive (says he who calls his projects fiveam and arnesi) whatever people want should be fine. the existence of a project called rfc???? will at least push people to add features/improvements to that as opposed to using re-implementing it. the idea of having projects somehow map to pages on cliki is pretty cool as well. thanks, -- -Marco Ring the bells that still can ring. Ok, the switch is done - we have changed the IPs of our original dns servers from: ns1c.johncompanies.com 198.78.70.180 ns2c.johncompanies.com 198.78.66.4 to: ns1c.johncompanies.com 69.55.225.225 ns2c.johncompanies.com 69.55.230.3 It is NOW appropriate for you to do the following: 1. On your system, edit /etc/resolv.conf and change the two nameservers in there. The effect is immediate, and you do not need to reboot or anything like that. If you use other nameservers than ours to begin with, obviously you can keep them if you want. However, if what you have in resolv.conf is our old ones, seen above, please do change them both. 2. Go to your registrar (network solutions, godaddy, etc.) and change the DNS settings to point to the two new IPs - please note that the names of the two nameservers are not changing, just the IPs. If you do not use us for DNS, you don't need to do this step. AGAIN, it bears repeating, the _names_ are not changing, just the Ip of each dns server, so the two IPs are all you need to change for any domain that we do dns for. 3. If we are your secondary dns, and we slave from you, change your zones to allow 69.55.225.225 to do zone transfers from you now. --- The old IPs will continue to work and answer for a week or so, but after that, they will be discontinued - so please do these items this coming week. Hi all, I've been talking to Erik Enge on #lisp and suggesting to go into full support mode for arch. (-: What is left to do: not much, really. development of arch-based projects on common-lisp.net is possible already, as both non-anonymous ftp and anonftp are supported. What would be good to have: a few things. * sftp support for people who are reluctant to transmit passwords in plain text over the net. this will probably also benefit users who don't use arch. * no delay between uploading something and it appearing in the anonftp download area. Would it be possible to upload to the download area directly? Erik said it was a permission problem. That should be easily fixed, I guess (-: Erik also asked about a script to send notifications to project mailing lists when a change get committed to the arch archive. This is a little harder to implement, but should be doable via the "dnotify" agent. I'll look into that when I have the time. Anyway, thanks for putting up common-lisp.net!
