Forwarding Michael's response on to the list, in the hopes that this helps others. I'm discovering an annoying aspect of this list: when you click on "Reply" or "Reply all" to any email sent to you via the list, you respond directly to the original sender. I'm personally used to replies going back to the list, and I suspect that this confusing others as well, so be wary of this when making responses. Well, it's time for season two, and here are the details: Friday mornings at 7am, join me and all the other TechCoffee coders at Caribou Coffee at LaSalle and Lake Street in Chicago. Once there, code. Season two will last for ten weeks. The first session will be this Friday, October 20th. The last session will be the TechCoffee Holiday Special on the friday prior to Christmas. That's all. There will be a sign-up sheet if you want to prove to yourself and others that you're doing your thing. There will be a wiki page if you want to recruit help or advertise yourself. And we know how long this season will last, so if you want to give yourself a schedule, feel free. Mostly, though, just show up and code. Do you code on your own time? On your own projects? Or on open-source projects? Do you *actually* code on your own time, or do you plan to, but spend more time cruising Reddit? Jason Huggins, from the Chicago Python group ( http://chipy.org/ ) had the realization that motivation to code is like motivation to exercise -- it might be easier if you get together with somebody else. So he put together TechCoffee, which is, basically, a time to get together and code. You don't have to work on the same thing as everybody else (indeed, Jason's planning on working on a patch for a Python project. i'll be hacking some Lisp, but nothing yet publicly available), just make a commitment to be there, bring a laptop, and spend time coding instead of surfing or slacking. TechCoffee is going to meet monday mornings from 6-8am. For those of you still reading, the first one is going to be this coming Monday the 19th, at the Caribou Coffee, on LaSalle St, just north of Lake St. More info can be found at http://techcoffee.infogami.com/ Jason and i are committed to be there at 6am. Hi -- I too am in the Champaign/Urbana area but could possibly come up to Chicago for a meeting if it were held on a weekend. I work at RiverGlass -- a startup that has rolled out of UIUC. We are using Lisp as a central piece of our intelligent analyst software. I work with two other "Lispers" at RiverGlass -- John Cassel and Brian Downing. They may be interested in attending meetings as well. RiverGlass has a Chicago area office that we could probably use for meetings if anyone is interested. Our office is at the TRECC facility at the DuPage airport. Duane Searsmith

Jesse, SISC looks really cool. I've been getting into Scheme lately using Kawa, and the syntax is much cleaner than that of Lisp. Absolutely. I would like to be able integrate a Lisp/Scheme with Java to leverage its powerfule abstractions. Kawa isn't a complete Scheme implementation as its support for tail recursion and continuations is minimal. I will definitely have to look more at SISC (and its implmentation :). Mike also pointed me out to the Schemeway project which is kick-ass Eclipse plug-in for Scheme that is somewhat similar to Emacs/Slime for Lisp. A few questions: 1. Is this group alive? The info page suggests we have over 30 people subscribed, but given the lack of traffic, i was wondering how many are still in Chicago and interested in being part of a Lisp UG. 2. Does this group have any organizers? (I can guess the answer to this, but hey) 3. Is there any desire to have a meeting? If so, are people more city- or suburb-based?
